Position Information
Service/Maintenance Worker (FLSA: Non‑Exempt) – Full Time, 40‑hour week.
Location:
Athens Area, University of Georgia.
Salary: $17.52 per hour (proposed starting date September 4, 2025).
Posting Date: 08/20/2025 – Open until filled.
Minimum QualificationsAt least a high school diploma or equivalent.
Preferred QualificationsSkilled cooking work in the preparation of foods for a Dining Commons. General preparation and cooking of a variety of foods, including specialized meats and vegetables; responsible for neatness, cleanliness, and adherence to prescribed schedules. Works under the supervision of a Cook II or Chef.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Competencies- Considerable knowledge of the materials, methods, and equipment used in large‑scale food preparation.
- Knowledge of health hazards in food preparation.
- Ability to read, write and perform basic math skills.
- Successful completion of a department‑sponsored food safety training program within 6 months of hire.
Move loads up to 50 lb, unloading and stocking products; perform push/pull activity with products weighing up to 30 lb; repetitive motion of wrists, arm, and shoulder; hand and finger coordination; reach, climb, balance, crouch, twist, crawl, and kneel; work in noisy, hot/cold environments with cleaning chemicals and fumes. Employee will work long hours standing.
Duties / Responsibilities- Prepare a wide variety of meats, fowl, fish, and vegetables for lunch and dinner; prepare dishes such as eggs, bacon, hot cereal, stews, soufflés, and similar courses.
- Operate standard cooking equipment such as mixing machines, steam cookers, toasters, food choppers, refrigerators, baking ovens, and stoves.
- Monitor and maintain sanitation and cleanliness of kitchens, refrigerators, and storerooms; supervise and assist other workers in food preparation; complete computerized production sheets accurately and timely; perform related work as assigned by management.
