Chemical Inventory Officer
The Chemical Inventory Officer is responsible for the maintenance and quality control of UGA’s chemical inventory, ensuring compliance with state and federal regulations and supporting research and teaching laboratories on the main campus and satellite sites.
Minimum Qualifications- Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent experience.
- Professional or technical certification in the applicable specialty.
- Valid driver’s license issued in the State of Georgia.
- Experience working in campus optics or a similar environment.
- Conduct periodic chemical reconciliations for all laboratories, including barcoding and documentation of newly acquired chemicals.
- Assist new labs with comprehensive inventory setup and bulk electronic transfers of hazardous chemicals.
- Review routine data reports to ensure highest quality of data in the system.
- Conduct training for chemical receiving staff and laboratory staff on proper inventory maintenance practices.
- Perform routine laboratory safety assessments as assigned to support the chemical inspection team.
- Serve as a member of the hazardous materials spill response team; cover on-call duty approximately one week per quarter.
- Proven professionalism and integrity in safety and compliance roles.
- Leadership aptitude with a customer‑service focus and ability to work within effective teams.
- Active consensus‑building and safety negotiation experience.
- Initiative and ability to perform recurring and newly assigned tasks.
- Excellent human‑relations and communication skills, both written and oral.
- Ability to prepare clear, accurate reports with findings and recommendations.
- Knowledge of state and federal environmental health and safety regulations and nationally accepted safety standards.
- Ability to respond to critical safety and compliance situations in academic, research, and clinical settings.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Access).
- Use of standard office computer equipment and software.
- Work in various physical environments, including weather extremes and laboratories.
- Perform inventory reconciliation and emergency response activities, including wearing personal protective equipment, climbing stairs, lifting up to 50 lbs, and negotiating awkward work locations.
