Schedule: 9 p.m. – 6 a.m., five days per week; weekends possible; two days off.

Minimum Qualifications: High school diploma or equivalent.

Preferred Qualifications: Two or more years security, police, or military experience; work experience on a university campus.

Position Summary

The security guard protects persons and property in residential communities. Responsibilities include addressing policy violations, performing patrols, reporting incidents, interacting professionally with students and staff, maintaining accurate paperwork, and providing coverage during holidays, breaks, and special events.

Duties/Responsibilities

Foot Patrols – 60%

  • Conduct foot patrols around assigned residential community.
  • Watch for life safety issues; report suspicious persons, fire hazards, leaking water pipes, and unlocked security doors.
  • Examine doors, windows, and gates to ensure they are secure.
  • Provide walking escorts for students and vehicle transport for housing staff upon request.
  • Provide coverage during all university holidays and breaks.
  • Provide coverage during special events such as football games, residence hall move‑in days, and other events.

Incident Response – 25%

  • Respond to incidents and interact with students, university housing staff, and campus partners.
  • Wear and activate body‑worn camera when responding to incidents and providing escorts and/or vehicle transports.
  • Address, report, and document any policy violations or violations of the law.
  • Work with and support UGA Police Officers as directed when they enter residence halls.

Administrative – 15%

  • Complete required training sessions, some of which may occur off‑shift hours.
  • Maintain and submit accurate, detailed, professional paperwork and reports.
  • Complete monthly inspections of lifesaving equipment in all traditional residence halls.
  • Perform other duties consistent with the purpose of this position as assigned.
Physical Demands
  • Walk 5 miles or more during a shift.
  • Visual acuity to see security or safety issues during the night hours.
  • Verbal communication and hearing of sounds of distress.
  • Safely operate a UGA state vehicle as necessary.
  • May occasionally perform work outdoors in hot or cold weather conditions.
