Position Summary

This employee assists senior trades‑persons in maintaining and repairing mechanical and structural components of the University of Georgia’s built environment. The role involves intermediate repairs of HVAC equipment, fume hoods, water/steam distribution, and plumbing; basic installation of electrical, plumbing, chilled water, and steam distribution systems; and general building maintenance.

Responsibilities
  • Perform basic installation, repair, and replacement of electrical, plumbing, HVAC, chilled water, and steam distribution components.
  • Inspect assigned buildings and related fixtures, mechanical equipment, and structural components.
  • Operate electric and battery‑powered tools (saws, drills, presses, grinders, welders) under direct supervision.
  • Transport building materials over long distances and across multiple levels.
  • Document performed actions and timekeeping.
  • Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.
Minimum Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Competencies
  • Ability to engage and complete intermediate repairs independently.
  • Use measuring tools and basic math skills.
  • Basic troubleshooting, framing, and structural work.
  • Safe use of scaffolding and ladder work.
Physical Demands
  • Lift up to 75 lbs.
  • Stand, stoop, bend, squat, kneel, and work with hands above head.
  • Work in extreme conditions, trenches, confined spaces, attics, crawl spaces, and mechanical rooms.
  • Work from a standard and extended ladder.
