Field/Service Technician, Maintenance Technician / Mechanic
Job Description
We are seeking High Voltage Substation Electricians/Technicians to become an integral part of our team. You will perform structural and electrical work inside high voltage substations, installing steel structures, porcelain insulators, high voltage equipment, assembling gang operated switches, pulling control cable, and other tasks required to construct and modify substations. Work is throughout Georgia/Florida and typically 5 days a week; weekend and overnight work may be required when clearances are available.
Responsibilities- Substation Technician Assistant (0–3 years)
- Recognize and control hazards in a substation.
- Observe and practice all corporate safety policies.
- Follow instructions to perform quality work.
- Learn by self‑performing homework, attending free training classes, and on‑the‑job training.
- Install electrical below and above grade raceways and wiring.
- Substation Technician (3–6 years)
- Install Copper Weld grounding.
- Bend, fit, and install bus bar.
- Operate hypress, hydraulic Octopus bender, magnetic drill, hydraulic bus punch.
- Clean, grease, properly install bolts & Belleville washers, and torque high voltage connections.
- Read and understand installation instructions and wiring diagrams for basic equipment.
- All Assistant responsibilities.
- Senior Substation Technician (6–10 years)
- Interpret electrical construction blueprints and elementary drawings.
- Install equipment related to metering, communication, and relaying systems.
- Perform all phases of installation, maintenance, repair, and inspection of electrical and instrumentation systems and service work.
- Install, repair, and maintain electrical motors, complex electronic devices, control panels, relays, conduit, and switches.
- Use meter and motor testing equipment.
- Understand control schematics and check phasing through a system.
- Assemble three pole motor operated switches.
- Install circuit switchers with shunt trip.
- Troubleshoot and solve problems on devices being installed.
- All Technician responsibilities.
- Lead Substation Technician (10+ years)
- Supervise crew of up to ten people.
- Coordinate with management to ensure crew has all tools and equipment to perform work safely and reliably.
- Schedule monthly, weekly, and daily crew work.
- Coordinate job so material and equipment are available on time.
- Coordinate and plan with onsite customer supervision and other contractors on job site.
- Make sure job is completed safely, reliably, and on schedule.
- All Senior Technician responsibilities.
- Substation Technician Assistant (0–3 years)
- Integrity—do the right thing when no one is watching.
- Ability to work hard outside under the hot sun.
- High work ethic and desire to safely complete any necessary tasks.
- Honesty.
- Clean driving and background record for at least seven years.
- CDL preferred.
- Willing to take a random drug test.
- Team player.
- Substation Technician (3–6 years)
- OSHA 10 and OSHA 30 certifications preferred.
- All Assistant qualifications.
- Senior Substation Technician (6–10 years)
- Knowledge of technical practices to plan, layout, and complete maintenance or repair for high voltage equipment.
- Skilled in using and maintaining electrical tools and test equipment such as rotation meters, digital test equipment, amp meters, voltmeters, meggers.
- Knowledge of substation grounding to create an equipotential work zone and skilled in installing protection grounds.
- Must have related experience in a high voltage environment.
- All Technician qualifications.
- Lead Substation Technician (10+ years)
- Ability to lead crew through example.
- Safety and quality oriented.
- Willingness to share experiences with others.
- Ability to respectfully tell subordinates how to improve if necessary.
- Ability to recognize and give praise to subordinates when deserved.
- High organizational and documentation skills.
- Ability to quickly and swiftly implement change if required.
- High problem‑solving skills and attitude.
- All Senior Technician qualifications.
