Position SummaryThe primary function of this position is to perform a variety of building maintenance tasks in and around the residence halls. This person works in a community housing facility approximately 1,000 student residents.
Key Responsibilities- Basic carpentry tasks: repairing doors, door frames, windows, window hardware, and furniture.
- Minor/basic repair of locks and door hardware.
- Minor plumbing repairs: replacing washers, unclogging drains, replacing flush valves.
- Basic electrical tasks: repairing or replacing light fixtures, switches, and receptacles.
- Completes work requests in a timely manner using the web‑based work order system.
- Inspects and performs basic repairs to various appliances.
- Identifies, completes, and plans facility improvement projects individually or as a team.
- Maintains clean and organized work areas and shop inventory.
- Participates in the required after‑hours on‑call program.
- Performs summer assignments including special projects, safety inspections, and oversees a crew of student/temporary employees.
- Other duties consistent with the purpose and scope of this position may be assigned.
- Technical knowledge in the field acquired through an apprenticeship, formal training programs, or on‑the‑job training.
- Minimum of five (5) years of experience, vocational training at the journeyman level in one of the applicable trades, or any equivalent combination of training and experience.
- High school diploma or equivalent (preferred).
- Valid driver’s license.
- Ability to safely operate tools, work independently, and communicate professionally with a variety of individuals.
- Computer proficiency: work order system, One Source, Microsoft Office Suite, UGA email and employee websites.
- Climb stairs and ladders; work from a ladder or scaffold.
- Bend at the waist and knees.
- Work with arms and hands overhead for extended periods.
- Use hand and power tools.
- Lift and move items up to 60 pounds.
- Work outdoors in hot or cold weather.
- Operate a UGA state vehicle as necessary.
