Georgia Class A Commercial Driver’s License
This position will haul equipment and/or materials to other UGA properties around the State. It will also assist/perfor skilled trades work on the buildings and facilities located on the Tifton Campus. Duties will include masonry and carpentry work such as pouring concrete, building tables, shelves, etc., repairing broken water lines, HVAC repairs and maintenance, electrical repairs and other tasks involving the use of heavy equipment.
Knowledge,Skills, Abilities and Competencies
- Georgia Class A Commercial Driver’s License
- Knowledge and skill in hauling and securing equipment
- Effectively manage time
- Communicate and work well with others
- Ability to take the facility or landscape task given and figure out the best way to accomplish it in a way that is compatible with campus personnel and University regulations
- Knowledge and skill in operating heavy machinery such as backhoes, sky trackers, forklifts, etc.
- Ability to read blueprints and schematics
- Crawling into confined spaces
- Climbing ladders, stairs, scaffolding
- Standing for long periods of time
- Lifting variable weight amounts depending on assigned task
- Driving to perform duties of the position
- Transport equipment and materials, both locally and around the state
- Secure equipment and materials on trailers using tie‑downs and other methods
- Drive a semi and other trucks to haul equipment
- Mix and pour concrete pads and perform other masonry work
- Carpentry projects such as shelves, tables, etc. built for specific research equipment or research needs
- Repair broken water lines
- Repair roofs
- Repair plumbing leaks
- HVAC maintenance and repairs
- Electrical repairs
- Assist other tradesmen with completion of various trade jobs
- Operation of various tools, including small tools, planers, and saws
- Operation of large equipment, such as backhoes and lifts
- Assist with setup and takedown of equipment at special events such as the Sunbelt Expo and campus events
- Other duties as assigned
