Purpose
The primary purpose of this position is to supervise individuals serving misdemeanor probation sentences or participating in pre‑trial intervention programs. Responsibilities include monitoring compliance with reporting, payment of fines and fees, completion of community service, and fulfillment of required courses, treatment programs and other adjudication conditions.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities- Supervise persons serving misdemeanor probation and/or participating in a pretrial intervention program.
- Monitor and document probationers' compliance with all sentence requirements, including reporting, fines and fees, community service, and completion of courses, evaluations, counseling and treatment programs.
- Conduct initial intake assessments of probationers and identify their needs upon entering the program.
- Report non‑compliance of probationers to the sentencing court.
- Prepare court documents related to probationers’ cases (e.g., petitions, modifications, warrants).
- Attend probation court hearings and testify as required.
- Communicate and coordinate with all relevant parties (employers, law enforcement, counselors) regarding probation supervision.
- Provide on‑call support to law enforcement as needed.
- Assign and monitor community service requirements for each offender.
- Participate in continuing education to maintain professional competence and certification.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Associate’s degree or equivalent advanced education (90 quarter hours/60 semester hours) from an accredited institution, or four years of experience as a certified peace officer.
- Minimum age 21, in accordance with Georgia State Misdemeanor Probation Oversight requirements.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Ability to enroll in and complete POST Academy requirements within one year of hire, and to achieve sworn certification.
- Preferred:
Law Enforcement POST certification, additional post‑secondary education, military experience, and/or prior probation experience. - Physical readiness to operate required equipment (radio, vehicle, firearm, handcuffs, telephone) and to perform physically demanding tasks (walking, standing, lifting up to 50 lbs occasionally).
- Strong knowledge of the judicial system, probation case management, rehabilitation practices, and applicable regulations.
- Competence with standard office equipment and software (word processing, databases, spreadsheets).
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, and analytical skills.
Monday‑Thursday or Tuesday‑Friday; 8 a.m.‑6 p.m., 10‑hour shifts. May be required to work on religious holidays and must maintain regular and predictable attendance.
Classification & CompensationRegular Non‑Merit – Serves at the discretion of the Chief Judge. Pay Grade PR1 – Public Safety Plan. This position is Non‑Exempt.
