Purpose & Job Related Requirements
  • Hiring Bonus
  • CDL with Passenger endorsement $3,000
  • Non-CLD Drivers eligible for $1,500 hiring bonus
  • One‑time hiring incentive paid in three increments upon satisfactory job performance after 3, 6, and 12 months.
  • Continuation is subject to funding and manager approval.

Personnel System – requires satisfactory completion of a six‑month probationary period.

Pay Grade

Depends on qualifications:
Recruit: 11, Operator I: 112

Safety Sensitive

CDL – subject to random drug testing per the Athens‑Clarke County Drug and Alcohol Ordinance.

Job Purpose

The purpose of this job is to operate a mainline bus or specialised van. Duties include picking up and dropping off passengers, collecting fares, operating a vehicle along prescribed routes, transporting paratransit/demand‑response passengers, providing good customer service, and performing additional tasks as assigned.

Work Schedule
  • Flexible schedules; some weekend work required.
  • Hours of operation: 5:30 AM – 10:00 PM, 7 days a week.
  • First route pulls out at 5:30 AM weekdays; weekend service begins at 7:00 AM.
  • May be required to work on religious holidays.

Regular and predictable attendance is required.

Emergency Position

This position is designated as an emergency position that requires attendance at work under all emergency conditions (inclement weather, utility failure, fire, forced evacuations, etc.).

Minimum Training & Experience Required
  • Recruit:
    • High school diploma or equivalent.
    • Customer service and/or working with the elderly or disabled is preferred.
    • Must possess a valid driver’s license at time of hire.
    • Must obtain a full valid Georgia Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) permit within six (6) weeks.
    • Must obtain a full valid Georgia CDL with passenger endorsement within four (4) months.
  • Operator I:
    • High school diploma or GED.
    • One year of experience operating a mainline bus and/or specialised van preferred.
    • Experience with the elderly or disabled is also preferred.
    • Must possess a valid driver’s CDL license with Passenger endorsement at time of hire.
