Purpose & Job Related Requirements

FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt

CLASSIFICATION: Personnel System;
Requires successful completion of a six-month probationary period.

PAY GRADE: 118

SAFETY SENSITIVE: CDL - Subject to random drug testing per the Athens-Clarke County Drug and Alcohol Ordinance.

Purpose of Job

The purpose of this job is to assist with coordinating daily shop activities and to perform repairs and maintenance on general ACCGov fleet vehicles and equipment. Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, training and supervising employees, assigning work, processing work orders, maintaining parts inventory, repairing fleet vehicles and equipment, processing warranty claims, researching fleet defects, assisting the Administrator with daily operations of Fleet Management, and performing additional tasks as assigned.

Work Schedule: Monday-Friday 7:00 am - 3:30 pm.

May be required to work on religious holidays.

Regular and predictable attendance is required.

Must work cooperatively with others.

When requirements include vehicle operation, responsible for the safety, readiness and operation of the vehicle and must abide by ACC's safe driving policy.

Emergency Position

This position is designated as an emergency position that requires your attendance at work under all types of emergency conditions. Some examples of emergencies include inclement weather, utility failure, fire or other forced evacuations or as determined by the Manager.

Minimum Training & Experience Required to Perform Essential Job Functions

Automotive or Diesel Technical College degree with three years of automotive and heavy equipment maintenance and repair or related experience required; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this position.

One Year Of Supervisory Experience Required.

Must possess a valid Georgia Commercial Driver's License Minimum Class B with airbrakes and without restrictions within 6 months of employment.

Must possess one relevant A.S.E. certification or have the ability to obtain within 6 months of employment.

Must possess or be able to obtain security training for the supervision of inmate workers as set forth by the Georgia Department of Corrections Standard Operating Procedures.

Essential Duties, Responsibilities

Supervises and evaluates assigned staff, handles all employee concerns, directing work assignments, counseling and disciplining employees when necessary, and completing employee performance appraisals.

Assists with the daily operations of the Division including equipment repair scheduling, personnel scheduling, research of new technology and equipment, coordinate capital maintenance projects to maintain fleet reliability, establish a preventative maintenance schedule, etc.

Coordinates and supervises interns and/or Work Based Learning (WBL) assigned to Fleet Management.

Adjusts daily work schedule as needed to handle workload changes, assigning work to mechanics and reviews or approves completed work.

Performs initial retrofit on equipment to evaluate problems, recommends improvements, allocates time needed for each retrofit, and prepares parts lists required for each retrofit.

Assists with compiling and preparing the maintenance budget.

Diagnoses problems with both automotive and heavy equipment pieces, including mechanical or electrical problems and performs corrective repairs and maintenance on all fleet vehicles.

Performs minor body repairs to fleet vehicles (replacing glass, bumpers, repairing floors, etc.).

Performs field repairs on vehicles and equipment; requests commercial wrecker service as needed.

Coordinates all vehicle body damage repairs. Body repair coordination includes requesting parts and repair quotes, submitting quotes to safety and risk for purchase order approval, reviewing body repairs for approval.

Operates all equipment to conduct functional inspections and road tests all department vehicles.
