Job offer is contingent on acceptance into an Ohio University graduate program. This position includes a 1-year contract with possibility of a second year dependent on your graduate program restrictions and needs of the department.
Well‑Being will provide a stipend; tuition waiver is dependent on approval from academic department and is not guaranteed.
Graduate Assistants will be expected to report for onboarding, training and semester preparation in August. The final date is to be determined.
Department SummaryThe Graduate Assistant, Violence Prevention & Education reports to the Associate Director, Prevention & Education and serves in a supporting role in the Office of Health Promotion‑ which supports the advancement of health and well‑being of the Ohio University community. The Graduate Assistant assists with the leadership, planning, development, implementation and evaluation of theory‑based and evidence‑informed well‑being and general health promotion strategies.
This position assists with all violence prevention programming related, but not limited to sexual assault, dating violence, stalking, bystander intervention, hazing, sexual health, consent, and harm reduction related to alcohol and drug education. The Assistant also helps plan and execute strategies advocating community care, addressing public health issues, and providing opportunities to implement well‑being and healthy living into daily life.
Responsibilities- Provide support and expertise to the Assistant Director, Peer Health Education and Empowerment, peer educators, and student organizations related to violence prevention.
- Communicate with key stakeholders on daily operations, weekly meetings, conference/workshop proposals.
- Create, plan, and collaborate with campus or community groups on education including panels, speakers, resource and information tables, and awareness and action‑oriented events.
- Deliver bystander intervention and violence prevention workshops, programs, and/or events to various audiences.
- Conduct program assessment.
- Assist with collaborative programming with campus partners to expand educational programming.
- Assist with development of educational marketing campaigns including social media messaging.
- Maintain regular office hours.
- Attend scheduled supervision and departmental staff meetings.
- Fulfill other duties as assigned.
Engages with students and contributes to the growth and development of various aspects of the Ohio University experience, including student engagement, student leadership, student conduct, well‑being and recreation, academic success, and campus life. Responsibilities may include supporting student government, developing student fitness and recreation programs, coordinating student events, providing student academic support, and providing administrative support to departments across the University.
QualificationsMinimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree required.
- Must be a graduate student currently enrolled in an Ohio University academic program.
- Must have strong research, writing, and communication skills.
- Bachelor's degree in public health, health education, social work, counseling, or related field.
- Experience working in health promotion, public health, or related field.
- Must maintain a 3.0 GPA.
- Knowledge and experience supervising or advising students.
- Strong communication and team management skills.
- Sound judgment, leadership and experience in conflict management.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office.
- Strong experience with program planning and/or event management.
- General understanding of principles of prevention.
