What you’ll do at DBH

This role focuses on supporting adults in a residential setting to develop independent living and social skills. You will work directly with assigned consumers, implementing personal and behavior plans and assisting with skills such as hygiene, medication management, food preparation, budgeting, and social interactions. You will maintain a safe and supportive environment, de-escalate crises, model professional behavior, and transport consumers to appointments as needed.

You will collaborate with team members to develop individualized service plans, document progress, and maintain facility cleanliness. Additional duties include the following:

  • Administers medications and provides related nursing care in accordance with policies and infection control practices.
  • Maintains medication accountability records, observes and reports patient conditions, and prepares related reports and records.
  • Provides general nursing and direct care or programming assistance, including vital signs, personal care, medication administration, and patient education as stated in the treatment plan.
  • Provides work direction, orientation, and training to lower-level direct care staff; precepts and provides direction to new LPN staff; participates in meetings as required.
  • Orders medications and medical supplies; maintains nursing station and medication areas; performs clerical tasks and ensures security of the ward unit.

This is an hourly position covered by the OCSEA/AFSCME bargaining unit. Normal shifts are 1st (6:30am–3:00pm), 2nd (2:30pm–11:00pm), and 3rd (10:45pm–6:45am) with potential weekend and holiday work.

Appalachian Behavioral Healthcare Campus, Athens, OH.

Starting pay:
Step 1 with potential increases after six months of satisfactory performance and annually thereafter, in accordance with applicable union contracts and/or Ohio Revised Code requirements.

Additional Salary / Appointment Information
  • Must complete a 4-week full-time orientation covering all shifts and weekends.
  • May work weekends and holidays; exposure to communicable diseases and unpredictable patient behavior.
  • Training and development required to remain in the classification after employment.
