Job Summary: The Student Success Advisor provides comprehensive academic advising, student support, and strategic problem‑solving to enhance student success, retention, and completion. The role manages a broad caseload, guides students through registration and academic planning, assists with financial aid and FAFSA compliance, uses data analytics for enrollment trends, and integrates career community engagement. The Advisor also participates in outreach, enrollment events, and institutional committees.

Minimum Requirements / Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university.
  • Four years of experience in academic advising, admissions, records, financial aid, counseling, teaching, or related fields.
  • Community college experience and familiarity with Banner and Banner Document Management System preferred.
Essential Job Functions

Student Success, Academic Advising, Support, and Problem Solving (35%)

  • Provide advising support and guidance for all students throughout the registration process.
  • Manage a broad caseload of students, offering in‑depth academic advising and career counseling.
  • Guide students using tools such as Degree Works, Scheduler Planner, and Cougar Net.
  • Lead and facilitate advising‑centered workshops, virtual information sessions, and outreach initiatives.
  • Resolve complex student challenges, including financial, academic, and personal obstacles.
  • Develop and implement targeted intervention strategies for at‑risk students.
  • Independently troubleshoot enrollment, financial aid, academic records, and prerequisite issues.
  • Apply problem‑solving skills to navigate interconnected systems and ensure institutional policies are followed.
  • Organize and participate in enrollment‑related events such as Cougar Days.

Financial Aid Counseling and Compliance (25%)

  • Act as primary financial aid advisor for caseload, providing counseling on federal, state, and institutional aid programs.
  • Assist students and families with FAFSA completion, verification, appeals, and award.
  • Ensure compliance with federal and institutional financial‑aid policies.
  • Identify at‑risk students, assess barriers, and engage campus resources.
  • Assist with student accounts, payment plans, billing, and bookstore credits.

Student Monitoring, Data Analysis, and Enrollment Process (20%)

  • Use dashboards and reporting systems to monitor and analyze data for admitted and enrolled students.
  • Leverage data to proactively engage students via email, text, social media, and phone.
  • Oversee the admissions process, guiding students through transcript evaluation and placement testing.
  • Support retention by analyzing workforce trends and aligning programs with career pathways.

Career Community and Career Outlook Advising (15%)

  • Use labor market platforms to provide real‑time insights and align academic programs with high‑demand career fields.
  • Interpret workforce trends, industry projections, and economic shifts.
  • Conduct career planning sessions incorporating salary expectations, regional demand, and skill development.
  • Assist in developing institutional reports on student career outcomes.
  • Participate in specialized career community initiatives.

Non‑essential Functions (5%)

  • Attend college functions as required.
  • Serve on college committees.
  • Participate in outreach activities to support enrollment, retention, and student success.
  • Stay updated on trends in enrollment management and student success strategies.
