Description

1. Ensures availability of adequate, clean and functional supplies and equipment.

2. Checks Crash Cart as needed

3. Complies with Universal Precautions.

4. Adheres to SRMC EOC plans / knowledge of each plan.

EOC=Environment of Care

Monitors and Directs Utilization of Resources Related to Care of the Patient

Accurately charges for supplies, equipment and procedures.

Documents in a concise, accurate and timely manner. (Consistent with Oncology P&P)

4. Checks in and out at time clock in compliance with hospital policy. Attendance per Administrative P&P.

Manages Patient Care to Avoid Unnecessary Extension of Patient Length of Stay

Plans and directs patient care utilizing the nursing process.

Assesses/Reassesses patients according to policy.

Implements physician orders according to policy.

Plans and provides nursing care according to SRMC standards of care.

Administers medication accurately on all age levels served by this department (18 years and older)

Patient care activities provided according to hospital policy and procedure.

Evaluates patients’ response to care provided.

Effectively Communicates Pertinent Information to Appropriate Individuals

1. Communicates appropriately with patient, family, physicians, outside agencies and other departments as well as EC co-workers.

Accurately and Completely Documents All Patient Care Related Information

Initial assessment.

Reassessment

Plan of care

Forms used to document specialized components of patient care: a) COBRA b) Patient Education c) Discharge Instructions d) Addendum sheet

Demonstrates and promotes professionalism.

Maintains positive working relationships.

Documents patient/family education according to policy.

High Risk/Low Volume Responsibilities:
Demonstrates the ability to perform the following procedures:

Administration of chemotherapy – Push, piggyback, IM, IV, intravesicular. Vesicant and nonvesicant.

Locates extravasation kit, review contents

Review of new chemotherapeutic agents.

Administration of blood products

Demonstrates the correct utilization of the following:

• Multisystem Assessment
• Plan of Care
• Patient / Family education
• Social Service Referral
• Medication Administration / Evaluation of affect

Qualifications

TN RN license, BLS, and excellent IV skills are required.

Minimum of 2 years Med/Surg experience preferred.
