• UT Health Athens is a 127‑bed facility, including a 24‑hour ED, designated as a Level IV trauma center and Level IV stroke center; advanced diagnostic technology; 10‑bed ICU; maternity unit radiation therapy center; and a stand‑alone ED in Gun Barrel City.

• The Medical Lab Technician functions as a professional who assumes responsibility and accountability for the performance of clinical laboratory testing that pertains to patient care and diagnosis.
• This position performs routine and special laboratory procedures, quality control, preventive maintenance, minor equipment repairs, inventory control, and statistical compilation.
• Will additionally participate in quality assurance, performance improvement, laboratory education, new employee training, and proficiency testing when assigned.

• Associate's degree in Medical Laboratory Technician studies, or a chemical, physical or biological science associate's degree.
• ASCP or equivalent certification.
• Certification must be maintained without lapse during employment.
• If certification does lapse, the job will be downgraded to Medical Laboratory Technician (non‑certified) until certification is reinstated.
• Current knowledge of clinical laboratory techniques and principles.
• Previous clinical laboratory experience as a Medical Laboratory Technician, Medical Technology, Clinical Laboratory Scientist or Medical Laboratory Scientist within a clinical laboratory.
