Job DescriptionThis role is responsible for working directly with departmental managers, supervisors, and customer service to ensure planning activities are appropriate to support the on‑time delivery of customer orders. The Production Planner role organizes production according to demand and quality standards and ensures goods are processed on time. A Production Planner is well‑versed in production procedures and methods to optimize them, and is organized and results‑driven, with strong problem‑solving skills.
Advanced communication and computer skills are helpful for this role. The employee is responsible for ensuring all work performed complies with company procedures and external/internal regulatory requirements.
- Plans, executes, and monitors the production schedule.
- Review open sales orders to determine customer requirements.
- Review documents, such as production schedules, work orders, and staffing tables, to determine personnel, material requirements or material priorities.
- Responsible for level‑loading manufacturing areas.
- Coordinate materials delivery to expedite the flow of materials to support the production schedule.
- Ensures all materials are available for upcoming work order releases.
- Releases work orders for manufacturing products and sub‑assemblies based on the production plan.
- Distribute work orders for pull/kitting.
- Participate in meetings with department supervisors and other personnel to assess build progress and discuss needed changes to ensure on‑time delivery.
- Partners with Production Supervisors, Material Handling, and Purchasing to resolve concerns regarding schedules, part shortages, expedites, etc.
- Works closely with customer service and other departments to meet customers’ requests and schedules.
- Notify sales of any schedule impacts on customers.
- Collaborate with Purchasing and the Production Department to uncover opportunities for improvement.
- Initiates LEAN Manufacturing practices by analyzing trend information and recommending focus areas.
- Support developing and achieving KPIs that deliver results for Safety, Quality, Cost, and Delivery.
- Become ERP (Net Suite) superuser and “go‑to” for resolving low‑level system issues. Maintain ERP system with production schedule and forecast.
- Manage assigned projects, working cross‑functionally to identify changes and required resources to obtain objectives.
- Plans, updates, and monitors manufacturing schedules, establishing delivery dates, and coordinating activity throughout the operation to support the master schedule, including tooling and material requirements.
- Assist with monitoring materials inventory to effectively determine needs based on production schedules, execute cycle counts, and assist Finance/Accounting.
- Maintaining a constant awareness of capacity constraints, material arrival, customer demand changes, and quality issues; adjusting and communicating schedule changes accordingly.
- Perform other related duties and responsibilities as required or assigned.
- Bachelor’s Degree preferred in one of the following fields:
Supply Chain Management, Industrial Engineering, Operations Management, Business Administration, Logistics, Transportation.
- 2–3 years of Planning and Scheduling experience in a manufacturing environment is desired.
- 2–3 years’ experience with ERP systems (Net Suite ERP preferred).
- Solid understanding of Planning and Scheduling methodologies (forecasts, safety stocks, replenishment strategies, inventory optimization, lead time reduction, Kanban, etc.).
- A general understanding of Lean Management is required.
- Proficiency with data analytics, databases, MS Excel, MS Word, and PowerPoint.
- Knowledge and experience of working with an ISO
13485 Quality Management System.
