Company Description

The Farm School Inc. is a youth‑centered 36‑year non‑profit organization with a mission of connecting people to the land. The four major areas of our organization are:
The Program for Visiting Schools and Summer Program (overnight trips for youth to engage with all aspects of the farm), The Chicken Coop School (year‑round middle school program), Our Food Donation program (provides thousands of pounds of produce to community partners), and The Nipmuc Land Project (supports connection to ancestral lands).

Job Description

We are seeking a Barn/Livestock Farmer Teacher to share a love of livestock farming with students grades 5 and up during 2.5‑night overnight visits on a ridgetop farm in Central, MA.

Responsibilities
  • Provide stewardship to a small herd of dairy cows, goats, pigs, laying hens, beef herd, and lambs.
  • Welcome and guide youth through daily work caring for livestock and collective stewardship of the land.
  • Share personal interests and hobbies with children to broaden their understanding of farming.
  • Collaborate with program teachers who chaperone and supervise the children overnight.
  • Support performing arts, theater, music, or experiential learning activities when available.
  • Receive on‑the‑job training in chainsaw use, felling, carpentry, and tractor operations.

Compensation

Salary is based on experience:
Intern $36,000, Beginning Farmer Teacher $38,500, Farmer Teacher $41,000. Position is full time year round. Also: $35,568* – $50,000 per annum.
