Job Summary

The Ortho-Trauma Advanced Practice Provider (APP) provides care for patients who have experienced traumatic injuries while playing a crucial role in the assessment, stabilization, and management of trauma patients. The APP may perform diagnostic and therapeutic tasks independently while collaborating with physician colleagues for appropriate credentialing and privileges. The APP will collect data and assess, diagnose, treat, and evaluate patients under their care, including rapid primary and secondary surveys to identify, manage, and prioritize interventions.

The APP is responsible for patient advocacy in the medical care system, serving as an advisor and liaison between patients and physicians.

Responsibilities
  • Assessment and Diagnosis:
    Evaluate patients with traumatic injuries, including fractures, dislocations, and soft tissue damage through physical examinations, imaging studies (X-rays, CT scans, MRIs), and diagnostic procedures.
  • Surgical Intervention:
    Collaborate with physicians for surgical management of trauma patients.
  • Preoperative and Postoperative Care:
    Develop and implement treatment plans before and after surgery, including pain management, infection prevention, and rehabilitation, monitoring progress and adjusting treatment as needed.
  • Emergency Care:
    Respond to trauma cases in emergency settings, including acute injuries and emergency surgeries.
  • Multidisciplinary

    Collaboration:

    Work with orthopedic and trauma surgeons, emergency physicians, anesthesiologists, physical therapists, rehabilitation specialists, and other APPs to provide comprehensive care.
  • Patient

    Education:

    Inform patients and their families about the nature of the injuries, surgical procedures, and rehabilitation processes.
  • Trauma Team Participation:
    Actively participate in meetings and case discussions to ensure coordinated care and optimal outcomes for trauma patients.
  • Documentation and Reporting:
    Keep accurate and complete medical records.
  • Compliance with Policies and Procedures:
    Follow all institutional policies and procedures.
  • Quality Improvement and

    Education:

    Engage in quality improvement initiatives to enhance trauma care practices, including teaching and training programs for medical students, residents, and other healthcare professionals.
Qualifications
  • Education:

    Master’s degree required. Completion of an accredited nurse practitioner or physician assistant associate program is also required. Doctoral degrees optional.
  • License/Certification:
    Board-certified as a nurse practitioner or physician assistant and licensed by the State of New Jersey. Credentialed as an allied health practitioner with Atlanti Care Regional Medical Center per the Medical Staff Bylaws.
  • Experience:

    Experience preferred, but will train novice. Proficiency in clinical applications at the time of hire preferred.
Performance Expectations

Demonstrates leadership, operational, and clinical competencies as established by the Assessment and Evaluation Tool for this position.

Work Environment
  • Potential for exposure to hazards and risks of the hospital environment, including infectious disease, blood-borne pathogens, hazardous substances, and potential injury.
  • Extensive standing and walking, including stairs.
  • Lifting approximately 25–50 pounds frequently.
  • Lifting approximately 50–100 pounds with assistance occasionally.
