Position SummaryThe OR/PACU Team Leader is a member of the interdisciplinary team working in collaboration with the Physician/Anesthesiologist and staff. The Team Leader utilizes the care process consistent with their license and/or certification, including initiation of interventions within individual scope of practice. The Team Leader is responsible for overseeing coordination of the interdisciplinary plan of care, ensuring consistency with the medical treatment plan, and assisting with assignments based on acuity and staffing.
The patient care process includes:
- Assessment – an orderly process consisting of the identification, gathering and organization of subjective and objective data pertaining to the patient, family and significant other.
- Planning – an organized step identifying actual or potential problems and desired outcomes (goals), resulting in a documented plan of care that provides direction for the patient, family and interdisciplinary team.
- Intervention – the specific interventions or orders implemented consistently with the plan of care and medical treatment plan.
- Evaluation – a step involving determination of the effectiveness of interventions in achieving the plan of care, and the need for reassessment and revisions to problems, goals, plan of care and interventions.
- Problems identified and prioritized relative to biophysical, psychological, environmental, self‑care, educational and social status.
- Goals consistent with the identified problem to provide direction for patient care and health promotion.
- Education consistent with the identified problem and associated goals, seen as critical to empower the patient.
Licensed and registered care providers document the assessment, plan, intervention, and evaluation. All patient care activities are administered according to standards, procedural guidelines, and organizational policy.
Team Leader Responsibilities- Actively supports performance improvement initiatives.
- Provides leadership to other members of the patient care team.
- Participates in educational activities and assumes responsibility for continued professional and personal growth.
- Education: Graduate of an accredited nursing school.
- License/Certification: Current RN license in New Jersey; current BLS (Basic Life Support) and (if applicable) BLSHP within one year of hire or transfer. ACLS/CNOR preferred.
- Experience: 3–5 years OR/PACU experience required. 2 years of specialty experience and/or demonstrated competency within specialty required. Proficiency in Clinical Applications preferred; incumbents will be trained and required to achieve proficiency within 30–60 days.
Potential for exposure to hazards and risks of hospital environment, including infectious disease, blood‑borne pathogens, hazardous substances, and potential injury.
- Considerable reaching, stooping, kneeling and crouching.
- Extensive standing and walking, including stairs.
- Lifting approximately 25–50 pounds frequently.
- Lifting approximately 50–100 pounds with assistance occasionally.
- Pushing and pulling heavy equipment.
This position reports to Clinical Leadership in each area.
