Overview

The Registered Nurse is a member of the interdisciplinary team working in collaboration with the Physician. The Registered Nurse utilizes the nursing care process consistent with their license and/or certification including initiation of culturally competent continuum of care including inpatient, outpatient and community settings. The Registered Nurse is responsible to oversee any necessary coordination of the interdisciplinary plan of care and provides for its consistency with the medical treatment plan.

The patient care process includes the assessment, planning, intervention and evaluation steps, and the evaluation may initiate reassessment and revisions to problems, goals, plan of care and interventions. All patient care activities are administered according to standards, procedural guidelines and organizational policy.

Responsibilities
  • Assessment — identification, gathering and organization of subjective and objective data pertaining to the patient/family/significant other, including physical, psychosocial, spiritual and cultural data.
  • Planning — identification of actual or potential problems and desired outcomes (goals) that result in a documented plan of care to guide the patient/family and interdisciplinary team.
  • Intervention — specific interventions or orders implemented in line with the plan of care and medical treatment plan.
  • Evaluation — determine the effectiveness of interventions in achieving the plan of care and document required actions; evaluation may lead to reassessment and revisions.
  • Coordinate the interdisciplinary plan of care and ensure consistency with the medical treatment plan.
  • Support performance improvement initiatives and provide leadership to other members of the patient care team; participate in educational activities for professional growth.
Qualifications
  • Education/LICENSE:
    Graduate of an accredited school of nursing; BSN preferred. Current Licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of New Jersey or current multi state license required. BLS required. Valid NJ Driver's License required for all employees in the Adult and Child Partial Programs.
  • Experience:

    Proficiency in Clinical Applications preferred at time of hire; incumbents will be trained and expected to demonstrate required skills within 30-60 days.
  • Specialty

    Experience:

    Various units require specific certifications and experience (e.g., ACLS, ATCN/TNCC, PALS/ENPC, NIHSS, NRP/NALS) and unit-specific competencies as outlined in the original description.
Performance Expectations

Demonstrates ability to perform department-specific competencies as listed on the Assessment and Evaluation Tool.

Work Environment

Potential exposure to hospital hazards, blood borne pathogens, infectious disease, hazardous substances, radiation, and potential injuries. The environment includes physical requirements such as sitting, standing, walking, lifting 25-50 pounds frequently and 50-100 pounds with assistance; pushing/pulling heavy equipment; color recognition in some departments. Specifics vary by department and are listed on the department-specific Assessment and Evaluation Tool.

  • Bariatric and morbidly obese adults with multisystem conditions.
  • Cath Lab cardiac/vascular conditions.
  • Critical Care and Medical/Surgical populations across multiple units (including Telemetry, ICU, Stroke, Oncology, Endoscopy, Radiology, Pediatrics, Labor & Delivery, Neonatal ICU, Operating Room, Wound Care, etc.).
  • Pediatrics, Behavioral Health, Dialysis, Orthopedic, and other specialty areas as described in the original posting.
