We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Physician Assistant (PA)/ Advanced Practice Nurse RNFA to join our General Surgery team
. The ideal candidate will be responsible for providing comprehensive perioperative and post-operative care in both inpatient and outpatient settings, assisting in surgical procedures, and performing administrative duties. The APP may perform diagnostic and therapeutic tasks and procedures independently while collaborating with physician colleagues with appropriate credentialing for privileges. The APP will collect data and assess, diagnose, treat, and evaluate patients under their care, including rapid primary and secondary surveys to identify, manage, and prioritize interventions.

The APP is responsible for patient advocacy in the medical care system, serving as an advisor and liaison between patients and physicians.

This position supports organizational goals by providing quality customer service, participating in performance improvement efforts, and demonstrating a commitment to teamwork and cooperation.

Experience with
robotic-assisted surgery is strongly preferred.

Key Responsibilities
  • Inpatient Rounding
    • Conduct daily rounds on surgical patients.
    • Collaborate with the multidisciplinary care team to manage patient care.
    • Document progress notes, order labs/imaging, and assist in discharge planning.
  • Surgical Assistance
    • Assist in colorectal and general surgery cases, including open, laparoscopic, and robotic procedures.
    • Prepare patients for surgery, including pre‑op evaluation and post‑op recovery management.
  • Preoperative and Postoperative Care
    • Develop and implement treatment plans before and after surgery, including pain management, infection prevention, and rehabilitation.
    • Monitor patients' progress and adjust treatment as needed.
  • Outpatient Clinic
    • Evaluate and manage preoperative and postoperative patients in the clinic setting.
    • Perform wound care, drain removals, suture/staple removal, and other minor procedures.
    • Assist physician with procedures in the clinic.
    • Provide patient education and support regarding surgical procedures, recovery, and follow‑up care.
  • Multidisciplinary Collaboration
    • Work with other medical professionals such as orthopedic and trauma surgeons, emergency room physicians, anesthesiologists, physical therapists, rehabilitation specialists, and other APPs to provide comprehensive care.
  • Quality Improvement and Education
    • Engage in quality improvement initiatives to enhance care practices including teaching and training programs for medical students, residents, and other healthcare professionals.
  • Administrative Duties
    • Assist with surgical scheduling, coordination of care, and documentation.
    • Complete insurance and disability forms as needed.
    • Support the surgical team with quality improvement initiatives and compliance documentation.
Qualifications
  • Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant program.
  • Current PA/APN licensure in NJ and board certification (NCCPA).
  • Valid DEA and CDS license or eligibility to obtain.
  • BLS and ACLS certification (required).
  • 2+ years of surgical PA experience preferred; new grads with strong surgical rotations considered.
  • Experience or training in robotic‑assisted surgery (preferred).
  • Excellent communication, clinical, and organizational skills.
Work Environment
  • Hospital and outpatient clinic settings.
  • May require rotating shifts or weekend coverage depending on surgical schedule.
  • Standing for extended periods during surgery and procedures.
