Position: Youth Engagement Support Staff (Day Shift On-Call Per-diem)

Overview

Youth Engagement Support Staff (Day Shift On-Call Per-diem) role at Covenant House New Jersey. The YESS will provide support to young people using strength-based, trauma-informed, and harm reduction approaches and will work within a multi-disciplinary team to create a safe, inclusive environment.

Base pay range

$18.71/hr - $18.71/hr

The YESS will possess excellent communication and organizational skills and provide support to young people in alignment with Covenant House New Jersey’s mission of providing absolute respect and unconditional love.

Responsibilities
  • Engage continuously with youth, implement youth-identified success plan goals, and support progress toward those goals.
  • Provide crisis intervention and de-escalation as necessary according to training and best practices.
  • Document intake, orientation, transitions into ETO/HMIS and case files; document daily progress notes and pertinent information in youth records (including HMIS, ETO, Youth Incident Reports, and Medication Logs).
  • Facilitate assigned youth group activities that support resiliency objectives:
    Wellness, Social Navigation, Financial Literacy, Education and Employment.
  • Perform duties assigned by the supervisor to meet the needs of young people while adhering to the daily program schedule.
  • Prepare welcome kits, sort new donations, organize unit storage, replenish youth supplies, and assist with laundry and space readiness for new intakes.
  • Maintain youth common areas, rotate youth files, and assist with front desk coverage and building-wide coverage as assigned.
  • Monitor youth medication nightly, count medications, and notify supervisors of any discrepancies.
  • Attend supervision, meetings, and professional development; respond daily to agency communications.
  • Transport youth in agency vehicles when assigned and utilize agency resources appropriately.
  • Assist with fundraising events and special assignments as needed outside normal work hours.
Shifts
  • On-call per-diem role with 7:30 AM - 3:30 PM shift availability.
Experience and skills
  • Bachelor’s degree in psychology, sociology, social work, or related field preferred.
  • Preferred experience with young people ages 18-24 experiencing homelessness or human trafficking; knowledge of public benefits and community resources in NJ.
  • Self-starter and team player with strong interpersonal skills; ability to build positive rapport with young people; excellent written and verbal communication; bilingual in Spanish preferred but not required.
  • Valid driver’s license with an insurable record.
