Position Summary

The Director of People and Culture provides leadership for all human resources functions and plays a central role in shaping an employee experience that reflects the values of The Arc. This position oversees HR operations, supports managers across programs, and leads initiatives that strengthen recruitment, retention, engagement, and workforce development.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead strategic HR functions including recruitment, onboarding, employee relations, performance management, and compliance.
  • Advance a people-centered, inclusive culture aligned with the mission and values of The Arc.
  • Partner with leadership and program managers to address workplace needs, strengthen communication, and support staff development.
  • Oversee compensation, benefits administration, and HRIS systems.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state (MA/RI), and local employment regulations.
  • Support staff engagement efforts, recognition strategies, and culture-building initiatives.
  • Coordinate HR components of licensing, audits, and CARF requirements.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Organizational Leadership, Business Administration, or related field required;
    Master’s preferred.
  • Minimum 5 years of progressive HR leadership experience, ideally in human services or nonprofit settings.
  • Strong knowledge of MA and RI employment laws and HR best practices.
  • Experience supporting managers, navigating employee relations, and building positive organizational culture.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • HR certification (SHRM-CP/SCP or HRCI) preferred.
Work Location

Based in our administrative office with routine travel to program sites across MA and RI.

Full Time, 40 hours, 8:00am-4:30pm
