This position is a full-time 12-month contract to hire.
Atlas Copco Tools & Assembly Systems is seeking a knowledgeable and detail-oriented Trade Compliance Consultant to support U.S. and Americas Region trade compliance activities. The role will ensure adherence to import and export regulations, provide guidance to internal stakeholders, and facilitate the efficient movement of goods across borders. The ideal candidate is an independent self-starter who thrives in a fast-paced environment and can communicate effectively at all levels of the organization, including with customs brokers, freight forwarders, and government agencies.
While the role is an integral part of the team, it is classified as non-permanent and does not include eligibility for Atlas Copco employee benefits. Employment beyond the stated end date is not guaranteed and will be based on business needs and performance.
- Ensure compliance with U.S. import and export regulations, including accurate classification and documentation of all cross-border shipments.
- Assign Commodity Codes and Harmonized Tariff Schedule (HTS) classifications based on current rules and regulations.
- Review, verify, and maintain Country of Origin (COO) data for all imported and exported products.
- Conduct import audits and maintain detailed customs records in accordance with U.S. Customs recordkeeping requirements.
- Collaborate with internal departments such as Purchasing, Engineering, Sales, and Logistics to document import assists, support product transfers, and ensure accurate customs valuations.
- Work closely with customs brokers and freight forwarders to ensure timely and compliant clearance of shipments.
- Support internal trade compliance training, policy documentation, and process improvement initiatives.
- Assist in maintaining and updating the company's Trade Compliance Manual and standard operating procedures.
- Support Free Trade Agreement (FTA) qualifications, including USMCA, by maintaining proper documentation and verifying product eligibility.
- Provide analytical support to identify and resolve trade compliance issues and recommend corrective actions where needed.
- BS degree in business or related field, or a combination of school and work experience. Broker's license preferred.
- Required 3 years of experience in trade compliance, global logistics, or a trade-related field.
- Required previous experience assigning Harmonized Tariff Classifications (HTS) and Country of Origin (COO).
- Familiar with valuation and Customs entry audits.
- Preferred prior experience managing broker and forwarder relationships.
- Cross-department collaboration skills, i.e., working with internal purchasing, engineering, and sales teams to document and invoice import assists on purchase orders and other transfers.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft products - Ex. Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint.
- Comprehensive knowledge of global ERP systems such as SAP, Oracle, or similar.
- Knowledge of USMCA and other free trade agreements. Qualification, record-keeping requirements, valuation, etc.
- Knowledge of and ability to maintain compliance manuals, update department procedures.
- Experience with Customs Brokers, Forwarders, and Government Agencies.
- Desire to learn new things regarding our processes and procedures daily.
