Job Description
The Hardware Interface Engineer is responsible for creating and maintaining hardware interface requirements between ECUs, sensors, and actuators. The role includes supporting technical reviews with hardware suppliers to ensure compliance with interface specifications and driving the consolidation and harmonization of hardware interfaces across the organization.
Key Responsibilities- Develop and maintain Hardware Interface (HWI) documents for ECUs and their directly connected sensors and actuators.
- Define electrical interface types (e.g., LSD, HSD, Half-Bridge, Analog Input) and document all relevant electrical characteristics, requirements, and reference circuitry to ensure device compatibility.
- Gather existing interface requirements, perform analysis, and recommend harmonization and standardization of hardware interfaces used within the company.
- Participate in Technical and Design Reviews with suppliers and component owners to ensure adherence to hardware interface requirements.
- Collaborate with component owners and suppliers to ensure successful implementation of HWI specifications.
- Work with the Electrical Architecture team to define hardware interfaces for all architectural components.
- Investigate hardware interface issues identified during validation and propose corrective solutions.
- Stay up to date with advancements in hardware interface technologies and update HWI documentation as needed.
- Promote knowledge sharing and support the technical development of the electrical architecture team through training and presentations.
- Drive early lifecycle delivery using an agile mindset.
- Foster a collaborative, diverse, and inclusive work environment.
- Take initiative and consistently deliver results.
- BSEE or MSEE from an ABET-accredited institution.
- 3+ years of experience in automotive electrical systems, architecture, or hardware.
- 1+ year of analog and digital circuit hardware development experience.
- 1+ year of ECU hardware design experience.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Excellent problem‑solving abilities.
- Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field from an ABET-accredited university.
- Experience with tools such as PSPICE.
