Auburn Hills, Michigan Design Release Engineer - Senior #1029120
Job Description:
The Design Release Engineer (DRE) for Driveline & Axle is responsible for:
- Designing and delivering products that meet technical requirements for assigned components and systems, including complex or innovative technologies.
- Developing expertise in specific components or assemblies.
- Coaching entry-level engineers.
- Serving as the main contact for supplier product engineering.
- Managing supplier activities, test plans, and deliverables.
- Preparing work plans aligned with project milestones.
- Performing advanced analysis and simulation of actuation mechanisms, including electro-mechanical and servo-hydraulic systems.
- Ensuring engineering deliverables adhere to infrastructure and process standards, including requirements development, documentation, reviews, and sign-offs.
- Developing technical documentation for components and subsystems, including source packages, design reviews, lessons learned, DFMEAs, DVP&Rs, and transfer functions.
- Delivering parts and hardware for pilot builds, including prototypes.
- Collaborating with subject matter experts and stakeholders to resolve failures.
- Preparing status reports and presentations.
- Supporting manufacturing and addressing production issues.
- Generating cost reduction ideas and validation plans.
- Participating in warranty and cost reduction meetings, analyzing root causes.
- Conducting Layered Process Audits at supplier facilities.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Mechatronics, Electrical Engineering or similar;
Master’s preferred. - At least 5 years in product engineering, design, validation, or related projects with OEM or Tier 1/2 suppliers.
- Minimum 3 years in transmission, driveline, or axles.
- Understanding of vehicle functions and architecture.
- Knowledge of manufacturing and quality processes.
- Proficiency in English (reading and writing).
- MS Office skills.
- Leadership, organization, planning, decision-making, and strategic skills.
- Ability to manage stakeholder relationships and drive change.
- Proactive, self-driven, team-oriented.
- Ability to work under pressure and communicate effectively.
- Training in problem-solving techniques.
- Capability to manage multiple projects and lead suppliers.
- Willingness to travel domestically and internationally.
- Experience with CAD (NX, CATIA), DFMEA, DVP&Rs, GD&T, CAE/CFD, CAN communications, electric motors, casting, and injection molding.
- Additional languages such as Italian or French are a plus.
Additional Information / Must Have's:
- Bachelor’s in Mechanical/Mechatronics Engineering or similar.
- 5+ years in automotive industry or related engineering projects.
- 3+ years in transmission, driveline, or axles.
