Description
The Engineering Assistant (Intern) will support Functional Safety activities for automotive projects under the guidance of experienced Functional Safety Engineers. This position provides hands-on exposure to ISO 26262 processes, safety analyses, requirements management, and systems engineering within the automotive industry.
This internship is scheduled to begin in January 2027
. To secure top talent, the selection process will take place in advance of the start date. Qualified candidates are encouraged to apply early, as interviews will be conducted on a rolling basis throughout the Fall 2026 recruiting season. Must be US Citizen or Green card holder.
- Support development and maintenance of Functional Safety work products.
- Assist in Hazard Analysis and Risk Assessment (HARA) activities.
- Support creation and maintenance of safety requirements and traceability matrices.
- Help review customer, supplier, and internal engineering documentation.
- Participate in safety analyses such as FMEA and Fault Tree Analysis (FTA).
- Support requirements management activities using engineering tools.
- Prepare technical reports, presentations, and project documentation.
- Assist senior engineers in safety reviews and project meetings.
- Conduct research on Functional Safety, ADAS, Automated Driving, and emerging automotive technologies.
Qualifications
- Currently pursuing a bachelor’s or master’s degree in any of the following or related study:
Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, Automotive Engineering - Must be US Citizen or Green card holder.
- Basic understanding of embedded systems or software development.
- Ability to work 15-25 hours per week.
- Coursework or project experience related to one or more of the following
: - Automotive systems
- Embedded software
- Control systems
- Functional Safety
- ADAS/Autonomous Driving
- Familiarity with:
- ISO 26262
- ASPICE
- Requirements Engineering
- Experience with engineering tools such as DOORS, Polarion, Jama, Enterprise Architect, MATLAB/Simulink, or Python.
- Preference will be given to candidates who have demonstrated hands‑on engineering experience through automotive, robotics, defense, aerospace, or autonomous systems research projects beyond standard academic coursework.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
