Location: Auburn Hills, MI
Job Type: Full-Time
Job Description
:
The KBE Exterior & ADAS Junior Engineer supports advanced vehicle development through hands-on Siemens NX modeling, exterior component development, and ADAS sensor packaging studies. Working under the guidance of experienced engineers, the engineer will develop proficiency in parametric modeling, WAVE linking, and Knowledge-Based Engineering templates. KBE equates to Knowledge-Based Engineering. ADAS stands for Advanced Driver Assistance Systems.
Responsibilities include creating and updating assigned CAD models, evaluating packaging clearances and geometric constraints, documenting assumptions and results, and communicating findings to Studio Engineering, the Product Design Office, and relevant engineering specialists. The engineer will progressively learn to support ADAS packaging and pedestrian protection evaluations using established methods.
ADAS Responsibilities. The KBE engineer must become capable of developing camera packaging and field-of-view studies using established KBE templates. The KBE engineer will also support coordination with suppliers and engineering specialists to incorporate applicable packaging requirements and best practices into KBE studies. The engineer will support packaging studies for mid-range radars, long-range radars, and park-assist sensors, using established KBE templates and applicable supplier requirements.
. The KBE engineer must become capable of developing windshield sensor farm packages which include rain sensors, humidity sensors, and inside rear-view mirror packaging. The sensor farm packages must be constructed such that the frit surrounding the sensor farm allows the wiper system and wipe zones to meet their federal and foreign market legal requirements. This will be done under experienced engineering guidance.
PedestrianProtection Responsibilities
. The KBE engineer will also learn how to support pedestrian protection evaluations by generating geometry, documenting findings, and preparing results for review by responsible engineering specialists, using the KBE template process. This evaluation includes the development of crush space zones used to help determine pedestrian protection regulatory compliance.
Basic Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, aeronautical engineering, or electrical engineering (BSME, BSAE, BSEE) from an ABET accredited university.
Other educational credentials may be considered only if accompanied by appropriate and relevant work experience. Hands-on NX modeling experience creating and modifying parts or assemblies, gained through academic projects, internships, or employment. Understanding of sketches, constraints, feature-based modeling, and design intent. Ability to explain modeling decisions and communicate technical findings clearly in writing and verbally. Willingness to learn KBE methods and apply feedback.
:
Automotive engineering and/or educational experience is desired in one or more of the following areas: body exterior (exterior lighting, bumpers, wipers, mirrors, fascia), Body-in-White, interior, chassis, or vehicle and occupant packaging. NX expressions and parameter-driven modeling. Exposure to advanced WAVE linking, user defined features (UDFs), and KBE template development is also preferred. Exterior component design or vehicle packaging experience. Exposure to ADAS sensor packaging or geometric regulatory evaluations.
- Competitive Full-Time Compensation Package
- Health, Dental, and Vision Insurance
- Paid Time Off and Holidays
