Position

Description:

The McWhorter School of Building Science (BSCI) at Auburn University seeks applications for a full-time, tenure-track faculty position at the Assistant or Associate Professor level. The candidate should be willing to engage in innovative, collaborative, and interdisciplinary teaching, research, and/or scholarly outreach and service activities by forming strong relationships with students, faculty, alumni, industry, and other academic and professional institutions.

Responsibilities
  • Teach undergraduate and/or graduate courses. Current areas of teaching need include (but are not limited to) building structures, construction documents, electrical construction, scheduling and field management, construction law, and virtual design and construction.
  • Develop an active program of scholarly research and/or outreach scholarship in accordance with the school and university mission.
  • Actively direct undergraduate and graduate student research.
  • Participate in service activities supporting the school, college, and university mission.

The typical BSCI tenure-track faculty workload is 70% teaching (18 credit hours over the 9-month academic year), 25% research and/or outreach, and 5% service; the percentages are negotiated with the School Head annually. Opportunities to develop and teach undergraduate and graduate electives are available.

About the School and College

The McWhorter School of Building Science (BSCI), established in 1947, offers undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral degrees in Building Construction. The school collaborates with Auburn’s College of Architecture, Design and Construction and supports programs such as Real Estate Development. The school has 26 full-time faculty members and a student population of over 700. It is an active ASC member and ACCE-accredited.

The College of Architecture, Design and Construction (CADC) comprises BSCI, the School of Architecture, Planning & Landscape Architecture (APLA), and the School of Industrial & Graphic Design (SIGD).

The University is a land-grant, R1 institution with more than 34,000 students and programs across many disciplines.

Qualifications and Requirements

Minimum Qualifications

  • A Master’s degree in Construction, Architecture, Engineering, or a Bachelor’s degree in Construction plus a terminal degree in a related field, at the time employment begins.
  • Appropriate professional employment in the construction industry relevant to the areas of teaching need.
  • Potential to teach undergraduate and/or graduate construction courses.
  • Potential to develop an active construction management-related research/outreach program.
  • Potential to direct undergraduate and graduate student research.

Desired Qualifications

  • Evidence of successful teaching of undergraduate and/or graduate construction courses where high-impact teaching practices were leveraged.
  • An earned doctorate in Construction, Architecture, Engineering, or a related field at time employment begins.
  • Greater than five years of progressive, full-time experience in the U.S. construction industry.
  • Evidence of an active research/outreach program, including publications and presentations in appropriate venues.
  • Evidence of mentoring undergraduate and graduate student research.
  • Advanced education, certifications, professional registration, licensure, or other relevant credentials.
