Position: Full-Time Visiting Assistant Professor Landscape Architecture

Position Overview

The School of Architecture, Planning and Landscape Architecture (APLA) at Auburn University invites applications for a Full‑Time Visiting Assistant Professor, Landscape Architecture. This one‑year, non‑tenure track appointment (nine months, two semesters) begins August 2026. The role focuses on teaching design studios and seminar courses, advancing undergraduate and graduate programs, and maintaining an active scholarly research program.

Responsibilities
  • Teach core studio sequences (Studio I–IV and Workshop I–II in the BLA program; Studio I–IV in the MLA program).
  • Teach core subject tracks including construction, dynamic systems, graphic studies, history, theory, and plants.
  • Develop and deliver elective seminars or advanced studios and contribute to the Alabama Lab research initiatives.
  • Maintain an active research agenda and disseminate scholarly work through appropriate disciplinary venues.
  • Participate in faculty service activities, including departmental meetings, committees, and outreach programs.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Master of Landscape Architecture or Bachelor of Landscape Architecture plus a terminal degree in a related field.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Eligibility for employment in the United States and ability to work legally for the term of employment.
Desired Qualifications
  • Evidence of outstanding design skills and a strong design philosophy grounded in contemporary practice.
  • Experience teaching beginning design instruction and proficiency with contemporary drawing and modeling techniques (e.g., analog media, Rhino, Grasshopper, ArcGIS, digital fabrication).
  • Professional registration or advanced degrees in Landscape Architecture or related fields.
  • Track record of investigating contemporary issues through design‑focused research.
