Job Summary
The Canine Performance Sciences Program at the College of Veterinary Medicine is seeking a Temporary Canine Instructor for DCSITE. The instructor will support research and development activities by assisting with canine training, handling, and overall development. This role involves ensuring the health, welfare, and proper care of program canines, maintaining equipment and facilities, and participating in outreach initiatives. Additional duties may be assigned to support the mission and objectives of the program.

Full‑time, 40 hours per week, 1‑year appointment ending October 31, 2026. Candidates must meet the minimum age requirements, be U.S. nationals, and complete onboarding procedures.
Essential Functions- Canine handling, training, acclimation, socialization, and care to support research and development activities.
- Applying behavioral conditioning principles for working/research dog development.
- Evaluating and documenting canine performance and behavior.
- Transporting dogs locally and out‑of‑state (overnight travel required).
- Assisting with program operations, including outreach and public engagement.

- High school diploma
- Valid driver’s license
- Ability to lift up to 100 lbs.
- Must be 18 years of age or older by Nov. 1st
- Willingness to work outdoors in varied weather conditions
- Understanding of animal behavior
- Detection canine handling experience
- Detection canine training experience
- Hands‑on experience working with dogs from birth to adulthood
- Knowledge of behavior learning and conditioning principles
- Strong interpersonal and public speaking skills
- Team‑oriented with the ability to work independently
- Problem‑solving abilities and attention to detail
- Experience operating larger vehicles and towing animal transport trailers
- Competence with data entry and basic record keeping
Hourly Rate: $18.00 – $22.00/hour, depending on experience.
Work Hours:
6:00 AM or 7:00 AM – 4:00 PM, 4–5 days per week, including some weekends.
