Overview
Lab Animal Care Attendant I/II/III at Auburn University
The College of Veterinary Medicine is recruiting candidates for a Lab Animal Care Attendant. The Animal Care Attendant will be responsible for providing daily care, cleanliness, and upkeep for a variety of laboratory animals in a laboratory or hospital setting.
Responsibilities- Ensure animal cages and containment rooms are kept clean and orderly. Restock supplies needed for cleaning rooms and meeting care animal needs.
- Perform a variety of animal care duties including feeding, watering, monitoring basic animal health and behavior, cage changes, and cleaning kennels.
- Perform a variety of animal care facility services including upkeep and maintenance of animal housing areas (e.g., sweeping, mopping, sanitization of walls, floors, tables, and equipment).
- Assist with animal treatment and health needs as needed.
- Assist with quality assurance and report mechanical or physical plant issues.
- Perform duties in animal support areas including laundry, cleaning and sterilizing equipment, and loading/unloading supply racks.
- Adhere to biosecurity protocols including wearing correct PPE, stocking PPE, and maintaining footbaths.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience:
- Level I: High school diploma or equivalent.
- Level II: High school diploma or equivalent plus 2 years of relevant experience in animal care and husbandry practices. Experience must include at least 2 years at the preceding level or equivalent.
- Level III: High school diploma or equivalent plus 4 years of relevant experience in animal care and husbandry practices. Experience must include at least 2 years at the preceding level or equivalent.
Minimum Skills, License, And Certifications
- Follows detailed, simple, routine instructions and procedures.
- Driver’s license required upon hire.
- Follows standardized rules, procedures, and operations. Works under limited supervision, prioritizes tasks independently, and resolves recurring problems.
- Experience working with large animal models of neurological diseases, primarily Krabbe disease.
- Experience in research and sample collection in large animal models.
- Salary Range: $31,200 - $44,200
