Auburn University College of Veterinary Medicine is seeking an Inpatient Veterinary Technician to work in the Intermediate Care (IMC), Intensive Care Unit (ICU), and Emergency Room (ER) section of our Bailey Small Animal Teaching Hospital.
The individual will work directly with board‑certified emergency and critical care veterinarians and rotating intern doctors to help facilitate quality care and patient flow through the IMC, ICU, and ER.
- Administers treatments and monitors patients admitted in IMC or ICU, observes and records vital data, abnormal signs, body weight, food/water intake of animals, collects and labels specimens, performs treatments, and administers medications as prescribed by primary veterinarian.
- Performs, instructs, and demonstrates advanced veterinary care techniques and procedures related to emergency and critical care medicine.
- Assists veterinarians in the care of patients requiring advanced procedures and life‑saving techniques including CPR, mechanical ventilation, and dialysis.
- Inspect facilities, equipment, and supplies daily, as well as observe health status of animals, environmental conditions, temperature, and sanitation.
- Performs emergency triage and stabilization of patients presenting through the Emergency service.
- May be responsible for, or assist in, billing clients, inputting charges, and/or similar tasks.
- Provides care for patients after hours, on weekends, and holidays.
- May perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications Level IAssociate’s degree or vocational certificate in animal science or related field.
Level IIAssociate’s degree or vocational certificate in animal science or related field plus 2 years of experience working in a veterinary hospital environment.
Level IIIAssociate’s degree or vocational certificate in animal science or related field plus 4 years of experience working in a veterinary hospital environment.
Substitution allowed for ExperienceDegrees can be used in lieu of experience.
Minimum Skills, License, and CertificationsMinimum Technology
Skills:
Knowledge of processes, methods and procedures associated with a limited range of engineering or scientific problems.
Active license with the Alabama State Board of Veterinary Medicine as a Veterinary Technician, or have met all requirements to become licensed in the State of Alabama. Licensure must be obtained within 6 months of hire date.
