Construction & Heavy Machine Operator I/II – Auburn University
Job Summary:
The selected individual will assist with ongoing land and facilities management responsibilities for the College of Agriculture, including construction duties, planning and completing projects, and operating heavy equipment and machinery on university property.
- Operate heavy equipment such as tractors, backhoes, bulldozers, excavators, trenchers, forklifts, and semi‑trucks.
- Excavate, grade, and resurface fields and surfaces at various job sites.
- Build or renovate structures and support structures including ponds, greenhouses, pole barns, and other buildings.
- Assist in the planning and estimating of department construction projects.
- Perform welding and plumbing functions in support of local facilities.
- Load and transport materials from one location to another.
- Travel occasionally for out‑of‑town or overnight work.
- Apply pesticides to plants, shrubs, and trees as needed.
- Repair and maintain equipment and vehicles to ensure proper working condition.
Level I: High school diploma or equivalent.
Level II: High school diploma or equivalent plus 4 years of experience operating heavy machinery and/or construction practices.
Substitutions for
Experience:
When a candidate has the required education but lacks the required experience, additional education may be applied at one (1) year of relevant education per year of required experience.
- Class A CDL or the ability to obtain one within a year of employment.
- Current Class A CDL.
- Knowledge and experience within the essential functions listed above.
Salary Range: $33,910 – $53,590
