Assistant Pool Manager – City of Auburn, AL

This position assists in managing the activities and operations of the City’s swimming pool and related facilities. The role reports to the Pool Manager.
Essential Job Functions- Assists in supervising and coordinating activities of the swimming pool staff to prevent accidents and provide assistance to swimmers, assigning duties to all Lifeguards.
- Assists in supervising the maintenance and clean‑up of the swimming pool and related facilities.
- Conducts swimming classes and assists with class scheduling.
- Ensures that all Lifeguards maintain a safety orientation during all aspects of their working day.
- Uses the testing kit to perform chemical maintenance of the swimming pool as necessary, including determining chlorine content, pH value, and water clarity at regular intervals during the day.
- Monitors the swimming pool and all related facilities during assigned shifts to ensure and enforce safety codes and standards and prevent injuries and fatalities.

Education and Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent; one (1) to three (3) years’ experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Possession of a current American Red Cross Lifeguarding, CPR for the Professional Rescuer/First Aid, or equivalent certification.
- Possession of or ability to readily obtain a current pool operations certification (e.g., Certified Pool Operator (CPO) or Aquatic Facility Operator (AFO)).
- Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver’s license for the type of vehicle or equipment operated. Requirement exists at the time of hire and as a condition of continued employment.
- Knowledge of standard aquatics lifesaving procedures, including rescuing swimmers from drowning, instructing, disciplining unsafe pool practices, and administering first aid.
- Knowledge of First Aid instruction procedures and practices.
- Knowledge of CPR and other related lifesaving techniques.
- Knowledge of general swimming skills for the purpose of instruction.
- Knowledge of local government operations, policies and plans, and modern office practices and procedures.
- Skill in teaching others safe aquatic practices and swimming techniques.
- Skill in using computers for data entry, word processing, and/or accounting purposes.
- Skill in effective communication, both orally and in writing.
- Ability to meet and deal with employees and the public in an effective and courteous manner.
