Job Summary

The Auburn University Regional Airport seeks candidates for a TES Line Service Technicianto play a vital role in keeping operations running smoothly. In this hands-on position, you’ll help maintain airport facilities and grounds, service and refuel equipment, and provide essential flight line services to both local and transient aircraft.

Temporary Employment Services (TES), a unit of the Auburn University Department of Human Resources, is an in-house support center established to meet the temporary employment needs of the university. TES provides qualified and dedicated temporary employees in a wide variety of occupations to meet the staffing needs throughout the campus. Temporary employees are hired for a variety of reasons with the most common being:

  • Assistance in the place of a regular employee who is absent for a specified period of time
  • Additional assistance during periods of abnormal or peak workloads
  • Assistance with special projects
  • Seasonal work
  • Emergencies

Essential Functions

Tech I (Flight School Fueling Crew):

  • Fuels aircraft using both Aviation Gasoline and Jet-A fuel. Responsible for ensuring aircraft are fueled according to specific orders and timetables.
  • Assists in towing aircraft as required, ensuring safe movement on the airport grounds.
  • Learns the trade of aircraft refueling, to include how to operate fuel trucks and associated components, measure fuel quantities in storage, check fuel quality, assist in receiving fuel shipments, coordinating fuel orders with flight school dispatch, and interacting with pilots and passengers.
  • Operates and becomes familiar with ground support equipment, such as the aircraft tug, ground power unit (GPU), lavatory service cart, de-icing cart, forklift, golf cart, UTV, and airport shuttles.
  • Ensures standard operating procedures are followed, utilizing detailed checklists to maintain accuracy and consistency.
  • Trains, coaches, and mentors new hires.
  • Ensures safety standards, guidelines, and best practices set forth by the National Air Transportation Association (NATA), Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT) and Auburn University are followed to the highest levels.
Tech II (Fixed Based Operator (FBO) Crew)

  • Fuels aircraft using both Aviation Gasoline and Jet-A fuel. Responsible for managing and performing fuel quality control checks on the airport’s fuel inventory. Ensures aircraft are fueled according to specific orders and timetables.. Ensures oil inventory in fuel trucks is stocked and fulfills oil orders for customers as requested.
  • Operates and becomes familiar with ground support equipment, such as the aircraft tugs, ground power unit (GPU), lavatory service cart, de-icing cart, forklift, golf cart, UTV, and airport shuttles; tows a large spectrum of complex aircrafts as needed; and marshals aircraft into parking spots.
  • Ensures standard operating procedures are followed, utilizing detailed checklists to maintain accuracy and consistency.
  • Performs routine airport grounds maintenance, such as mowing grass, applying herbicide, and changing airport lighting fixtures and bulbs.
  • Manages the airport apron environment, conducts daily inspections to ensure security and cleanliness, and maintains airport perimeter fencing, gates, apron, shop, and storage facilities in a secure, clean, organized, and presentable condition at all times.
