Position purpose:
This Veterinary Technician position involves providing excellent veterinary care to Vetco Total Care full-service hospital patients and delivering exceptional customer care to their owners. The Technician represents the mission and values to clients and partners and helps foster cohesion and motivation within the hospital team.
- Greet clients and patients, obtain weights and vital signs, record information in the electronic medical record, and document the patient visit history.
- Assist veterinarians with routine and emergency appointments, surgery, dentistry, and euthanasia, under supervision.
- Perform patient restraint, process laboratory samples, handle and dispense medications, and maintain medical records.
- Schedule appointments, educate clients, relay test results, maintain inventory and client/patient records, and manage accounts receivable.
- Prepare patients for surgical and dental procedures, assist with anesthesia induction and monitoring, monitor during recovery, and prepare for discharge or transfer as needed.
- Provide in-hospital treatments, administer injectable and oral medications, IV therapies, and maintain patient care (food, water, hygiene) as directed by the veterinarian.
- Participate in the training of new staff and share knowledge as required.
- Keep the hospital environment neat and clean and perform regular cleaning per schedule.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
- Provide backup phone and front desk support as needed.
The Veterinary Technician works under the direct supervision of veterinarians and the Hospital Office Manager or Hospital Leader on Duty.

Education/Experience- College or college-equivalent education required for becoming a Credentialed Veterinary Technician in the state where the hospital is located.
- At least 1 year of previous experience as a Veterinary Technician or in a veterinary practice.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Compassionate, professional demeanor under emotional and stressful situations.
- Telephone and computer skills; a team player willing to learn new techniques and adapt to change.
The majority of duties are in the Vetco Total Care full-service hospital. May involve bending, kneeling, lifting up to 30 pounds, and standing for long periods. Significant client and patient interaction.
