Ceramic Blade Maker

Overview

Ceramic Blade Maker – Kadant South America, Auburn, Massachusetts.

This role sets up and operates a precision automatic ceramic grinding machine, producing items from various materials following blueprints, sketches, and work instructions. The applicant will perform all blade processing operations in ceramic and other blade departments.

• Work independently in planning, layout, setting up and operating the precision automatic ceramic blade grinder.
• Produce product according to specifications and applicable procedures/work instructions.
• Perform basic machine maintenance.
• Carry out all processing operations in ceramic and other blade departments, including beveling, honing, grinding, punching, cutoff, packaging, and assembly.
• Participate in development of processes to enable production of unique and undocumented processes.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and efficient work area.
• Be fully responsible for the quality of own work.
• Comply with all company safety policies, procedures, and practices.
• Be a team player and participate in efforts to achieve departmental and company goals.
• Work overtime as required.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Opportunity to travel to Germany for hands‑on training from the original equipment manufacturer.

• Education/
  
  Experience:
  
  High School Diploma or equivalent. Minimum two years hands‑on experience with the set‑up and operation of precision automatic ceramic face grinding machines. Experience with all blade‑making processes is a plus. Experience with lifting devices such as cranes and power lifts.
• Knowledge: Shop mathematics and technologies; ability to read basic blueprints; understanding of order of operations and good manufacturing practices.
• Skills: Ability to read and interpret blueprints; use measuring tools (tape measure, micrometers, vernier calipers); control equipment to hold tolerances of .0005 consistently; verbal and written communication; problem solving with little guidance; basic computer skills; task prioritization.
• Physical/Environmental Demands: Manual dexterity to handle items; lift up to 40 lbs without aid; work in shop conditions with moving equipment, noise, dust, temperature swings; exposure to hazards requiring personal protective equipment.
