Sr. Mobile Diesel Mechanic – Cox Automotive Inc.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform scheduled preventative maintenance (PM), DOT inspections and post‑inspection repairs on light, medium and heavy‑duty vehicles in a mobile/field environment.
  • Diagnose, adjust, and repair truck equipment including electrical, braking, cooling, air‑conditioning, engine, transmission, clutch, differential, and steering systems.
  • Conduct road tests to verify repairs and ensure vehicle functionality.
  • Use handheld diagnostic devices and pressure gauges to identify and resolve malfunctions.
  • Manage parts inventory, maintain company‑issued service vehicles, and conduct pre‑/post‑trip safety inspections.
  • Document repairs, parts used, and findings using iOS devices and the TRAIT application.
  • Communicate repair estimates, purchase orders, and repair order (RO) findings with management and support personnel.
  • Perform work in compliance with OSHA, EPA, DOT regulations and company safety policies.
  • Operate independently, prioritizing tasks and maintaining a high level of productivity.
  • Maintain a reliable driver qualification file and a safe driving record.
Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or GED with at least 3 years of related experience; or 5 years of experience with a related degree/certification.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience working with refrigerated equipment.
  • Valid driver’s license and a clean driving record.
  • Must be at least 21 years old and a resident of the United States.
  • Successful completion of a DOT‑regulated background screening, DOT physical, or a valid DOT medical card with more than 4 months remaining.
  • Current or acquired OEM training; ASE certifications preferred.
  • Completion of all company‑required training.

  • ASE T8 (PMI) certification
  • ASE 608/609 certification

  • ASE L2 (Electronic Diesel Engine Diagnosis Specialist)
Skills & Abilities
  • Ability to perform physical work for extended periods, including lifting, bending, and climbing.
  • Strong logical reasoning and problem‑solving skills.
  • Effective verbal and written communication.
  • Judges tool and equipment selection accurately.
  • Precise spatial judgment for evaluating objects and distances.
Compensation

Hourly base pay range: $35.48 – $53.27 per hour. Compensation may vary based on location, candidate qualifications, and additional incentive programs.
