Job Summary

To support growth, Fleet Services by Cox Automotive is hiring a Mobile Trailer Technician I for a dedicated on‑site position that focuses on DOT inspections, preventive maintenance, light repairs, and related duties such as trailer brakes, air lines, auxiliary pumps and engines, lift gates, and brake chambers. Work is performed at the customer’s site.

Responsibilities
  • Always follow and comply with safe operating practices and procedures.
  • Independently manage parts inventory and reconcile on the company‑issued service truck.
  • Maintain and operate the service vehicle, including safety checks and pre/post‑trip inspections.
  • Apply knowledge gained through formal training or on‑the‑job experience to perform the job.
  • Communicate effectively with clients to assess needs and resolve issues.
  • Prioritize concurrent tasks and allocate time efficiently.
  • Act with integrity, demonstrate honesty, and keep commitments, maintaining confidentiality and ethical standards.
  • Perform scheduled preventive maintenance (“PM”), DOT inspections, and follow‑up repairs on trailers and equipment in the field.
  • Respond to call‑center dispatched unscheduled service and maintenance requests.
  • Use hand tools, precision instruments, trailer tools, welding equipment, and jacks.
  • Document work and upload photos of parts used and findings on Repair Orders (RO) via the company’s iOS device and TRAIT application.
  • Accurately complete DOT forms and other required documentation promptly.
  • Work independently, manage daily schedule, and maintain high productivity within standard repair times.
  • Obtain parts from approved local and national vendors as needed.
  • Communicate with management for repair estimate approvals and purchase order retrieval.
  • Perform all work in compliance with safety, health, environmental, OSHA, EPA, and DOT regulations.
  • Complete all company‑required safety training.
  • Maintain good relationships with customers and vendors, communicating effectively.
  • Adjust and repair various trailer equipment systems, including brakes, air lines, pumps, engines, lift gates, and brake chambers.
  • Adhere to all company policies and keep safety protocols updated.
  • Stay current on safety protocols and procedures.
Requirements
  • High School Diploma or GED and up to 2 years of related experience.
  • Possess and supply a set of hand tools required for job duties.
  • Obtain Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certification T8 (PMI) within 18 months.
  • Obtain 608/609 certification within 18 months.
  • Pass a DOT‑regulated pre‑employment background screening and DOT physical.
  • Provide a current DOT medical card with more than 4 months remaining, or submit a DOT physical if less than 4 months.
  • Be at least 21 years old due to interstate operating authority regulations.
  • Hold a valid driver's license and be a safe driver; maintain a Driver Qualification File.
Preferred Certifications
  • ASE 608/609 certification.
Skills & Abilities
  • Knowledge of trailer parts and systems for repair and maintenance.
  • Ability to apply new information to solve problems and make decisions.
  • Physical ability to lift, bend, climb, stand, and walk for long periods; perform moderately heavy labor.
