Our success depends on well-maintained equipment, and we are looking for a highly skilled Lead Diesel Mechanic to take charge of our fleet maintenance program, ensure compliance with DOT standards, and lead our maintenance team. This is a hands-on leadership role for someone with strong technical skills, proven diesel mechanic experience, and the ability to lead by example.
We operate a large fleet, including dump trucks and diesel-powered equipment, and need a leader who can keep our vehicles operating at peak performance.
We are seeking a Head Mechanic with a minimum of 5 years of diesel repair experience, capable of overseeing all fleet maintenance, performing DOT inspections, leading repairs, and managing our maintenance personnel. This is a critical role ensuring the safety, reliability, and efficiency of our fleet.
Key Responsibilities- Lead and oversee maintenance of diesel engines, dump trucks, and company vehicles.
- Perform and document DOT inspections to ensure full compliance with safety regulations.
- Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems using advanced diagnostic tools.
- Handle breakdown repairs, preventative maintenance, and emergency service calls.
- Perform welding and fabrication work as needed (preferred but not required).
- Order parts, manage maintenance budgets, and maintain accurate service records.
- Supervise and mentor maintenance staff, ensuring high standards of work and safety.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe shop environment.
- Stay current with industry best practices and emerging diesel technologies.
- Minimum 5 years of diesel mechanic experience, preferably with heavy trucks and equipment.
- Strong knowledge of diesel engines, electrical systems, and hydraulic components.
- Experience conducting DOT inspections and ensuring regulatory compliance.
- Certification from a diesel mechanic program or equivalent work experience.
- Proficiency with diagnostic tools and troubleshooting procedures.
- Welding and fabrication skills are a plus.
- Ability to read technical manuals, schematics, and repair documents.
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate and oversee a team.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Self-starter with high integrity and a commitment to safety.
- Valid driver’s license required; CDL preferred.
