Position: Play and Learn - Augusta South

Daily

Hours:

Monday-Friday 9am-12pm and/or 4pm-7:30pm

Position Summary

Responsible for all activity of the Play and Learn area of the Family Y Branch including interacting with the children, ensuring sign in and out sheets are filled out, communication with the parents or guardians, and following disciplinary procedures.

Responsibilities
  • Works as Play and Learn team member providing direction and oversight of the children in the Play and Learn areas.
  • Interact with children: provide constant care in an efficient, safe, secure, and healthy manner.
  • Follows guidelines and procedures that were learned in childcare classes and staff meetings.
  • In person position that requires employee to remains alert and attentive
  • Ensure that staff: child ratio is within limits at all times.
  • Develops and implement hands‑on activities which are age appropriate.
  • Assist with special activities as scheduled, including Parent's Night Out and Birthday Party activities.
  • Assist with housekeeping/maintenance of all areas used to ensure cleanliness of activity areas.
  • Responsible for completing incident/accident reports and reporting any major concerns to immediate supervisor.
  • Builds and maintains effective and positive relationships and communication with parents and staff.
  • Attend trainings as directed by Supervisor.
  • Dress according to staff policy.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned to meet the Family Y's mission and goals.
Performance Requirements
  • Communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Exercise mature judgment and sound decision making.
  • Consistently demonstrate positive communication: teach and redirect rather than scolding or reprimanding children.
  • Ability to obtain CPR/First Aid training within 30 days of hire.
Qualifications
  • Must be 18 years old or older.
  • Minimum of High School Education or General Equivalent Diploma; formal training in early education or child development preferred.
  • Be able to practice professionalism, displaying confidentiality while learning, following, and enforcing local Y and national guidelines related to internal policy.
  • Experience in working with school‑aged children or youth programs.
