Job Summary

Augusta University College of Nursing invites applications for a full‑time, 12‑month Chair of the Department of Nursing Science position. The College is the state's flagship nursing program, enrolling more than 1,000 students on two campuses and at numerous academic‑practice partner sites, and is an integral component of Augusta University and the University System of Georgia. The College is adjacent to Wellstar Medical College of Georgia (MCG) Health, Children’s Hospital of Georgia, Georgia Cancer Center, and the Veterans Administration Medical Center, providing ample opportunity for clinical experiences.

The college offers the full degree spectrum, including BSN, MSN, DNP, and PhD programs.

Responsibilities
  • Collaborates as a member of the College of Nursing Administrative Team to support the research mission of the College and Augusta University.
  • Contributes to the College of Nursing strategic planning process.
  • Actively recruits research‑intensive faculty for the College of Nursing.
  • Fosters a culture of research and scholarly engagement.
  • Ensures administrative support for the Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Nursing program.
  • Ensures adequate faculty are available to support the needs of the PhD program and works collaboratively with the PhD Program Director to guarantee support for PhD students.
  • Serves as the primary mentor for College of Nursing tenure‑track faculty, mentoring throughout the tenure trajectory and advising on start‑up funding and research‑aligned funding opportunities.
  • Mentors tenured and other research‑active faculty through the promotion process and provides post‑tenure support, identifying research development opportunities and participating in appointments, reappointments, and promotion recommendations.
  • Models leadership in research and scholarly work through active engagement with national and international professional organizations, attending key research‑focused conferences, presenting own research, and maintaining current knowledge of extramural funding trends.
  • Supervises faculty and staff and manages assigned areas of responsibility, providing direct supervision for assigned departmental staff and all tenure/tenure‑track faculty.
  • Maintains own program of scholarship and research.
Required Qualifications
  • PhD in nursing or related field.
  • Active license to practice nursing in Georgia or meet all eligibility requirements to apply for a Georgia nursing license.
  • Academic teaching, administrative, and leadership experience.
  • Experience with technology‑infused engaging pedagogical strategies.
  • Background commensurate with the Associate Professor level or above.
  • Evidence of contribution to the profession and recognition at the national level.
  • Expert written and verbal communication skills.
  • Associate Professor – Mid‑level career faculty member with at least five years at rank of Assistant Professor or comparable training and experience.
  • Professor – Senior level career faculty member with at least five years at the rank of Associate Professor or comparable training and experience.
  • Per Board of Regents policy, Professors must have a terminal degree.
  • Required faculty employment qualifications for all USG institutions include compliance with SACSCOC accreditation, evidence of teaching, scholarly activity, and ability in all other duties; desirable personal qualities are judged on interview, biographical data, and recommendations.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Proven success in securing and maintaining external funding through independent efforts.
  • Experience mentoring faculty in grant writing and project development.
  • Demonstrated ability to build and manage research teams, labs, or interdisciplinary initiatives.
  • Experience fostering collaborations across departments, institutions, or with industry partners.
Shift / Salary / Benefits

This position is fiscal‑year based and works year‑round. The intended work commitment or full‑time equivalent (FTE) is 1.0.
