Regular/Temporary:

The Department Chair's responsibilities include oversight for and/or participation in departmental teaching, research, scholarship. This is a full-time position with the rank of Associate Professor or Professor. This position reports to the Dean of the College of Allied Health Sciences.

Note: The tenure status (on tenure track, tenure upon appointment, or not on tenure track) will be determined based on the qualifications of the final candidate and will be confirmed in the final offer along with position expectations.

Responsibilities
  • Uphold and exhibit Augusta University values to include collegiality, compassion, excellence, integrity and leadership.
  • Provide supervision, support, and oversight for all faculty and staff.
  • Hire all faculty and staff and be responsible for all disciplinary actions.
  • Be responsible for the assessment and evaluation of all faculty and staff with input and assistance of the Program Director.
  • Work effectively with the Speech-Language Pathology Program Director to achieve excellence in academic programming and development.
  • Critically review enrollment trends in Speech-Language Pathology and implement plans to balance enrollment with faculty capacity and the department’s mission in teaching, research, service and clinical practice.
  • Be responsible for the administration and oversight of the department’s operations and budget.
  • Advise and lead faculty in the promotion and tenure process.
  • Advise students on program, college and university policies.
  • Meet with class officers at least once per semester to maintain communication and gather information about program conduct; meet with the entire class as needed.
  • Maintain and encourage a positive environment for all faculty, staff, and students.
  • Establish, implement and monitor policies and procedures for the department; maintain compliance with federal, state, and institutional policies, procedures and regulations.
Other Administrative Functions
  • Provide effective team building for the department.
  • Organize, administer, and oversee fiscal management, continuous programmatic review and analysis, planning, development, and adherence to policies (CAA and ASHA documents).
  • Cultivate a department as a community of scholars rooted in trust and transparency.
  • Supervise the Clinical Director, faculty and staff in all activities related to the Program.
  • Prepare reports for external and internal constituents (Dean, CAA, ASHA, etc.).
  • Conduct Annual Faculty Performance Evaluations and forward results to the Dean’s Office for review and signatures.
  • Assign teaching responsibilities and workloads comparable to other faculty within the College of Allied Health Sciences.
  • Participate in appointment, promotion and tenure processes.
Required Qualifications
  • PhD in a related area or an EdD.
  • Licensed to practice Speech-Language Pathology (SLP) in the U.S. with at least 7 years of combined academic and clinical experience, including program directing and managing faculty; graduate of an accredited SLP program.
  • Prior experience in an academic administrative role with teaching experience; prior role in higher education; demonstrated teaching ability and scholarly activity.
  • Licensed SLP in the U.S. (repeat of licensure not needed as separate item; included for fidelity to source).
  • Faculty qualifications for USG institutions: alignment with SACSCOC accreditation requirements; evidence of teaching ability; evidence of scholarly activity; successful experience (waivable for entry-level candidates); desirable personal qualities as per interview, biographical data, and recommendations.
Shift/Salary/Benefits
  • This position is fiscal year based and works year-round. The FTE is 1.0 (full-time).
