Job Summary

The Medical College of Georgia, Division of Gastroenterology in the Department of Medicine at Augusta University is currently seeking a faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Professor. Physicians with expertise in General Gastroenterology and Hepatology are especially of interest. Desired candidates will participate in patient care and teaching, work collaboratively with leadership in growing the Division along with expansion or development of new basic, clinical or translational research programs.

This position does not meet the requirements to be on a tenure track.

Responsibilities Clinical - 90%
  • Growth of the clinical practice.
  • Fostering new clinical initiatives with the Health System.
  • Continued development of Advanced Endoscopy services.
  • Actively participate in the teaching activities in support of students, residents and fellows.
  • Serve as Associate Program Director for the Gastroenterology Fellowship Program.
  • Developing relationships with the community that promote the academic mission.
  • Clinical responsibilities will consist of a set number of half day clinics per week in the Gastroenterology faculty practice site; a set number of half days of block endoscopy time; a set number of GI consult service.
Teaching - 10%

Fellow, resident & student education.

Required Qualifications
  • Doctorate degree from an accredited institution and board-eligibility, or board-certification in GI.
  • Assistant Professor – Early level career as a faculty member with appropriate post graduate training.
  • Associate Professor – Mid level career faculty member with at least five years at rank of Assistant Professor or comparable training, background, and experience.
  • Professor – Senior level career faculty member with at least five years at the rank of Associate Professor or comparable training, background, and experience.
  • Consistent with the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC)’s requirements for institutional accreditation.
  • Evidence of ability as a teacher.
  • Evidence of activity as a scholar and ability in all other duties assigned.
  • Successful experience (which will necessarily be waived for those just entering the academic profession who meet all other requirements).
  • Desirable personal qualities judged on the basis of personal interview, complete biographical data, and recommendations.
Shift/Salary/Benefits

This position is fiscal year based and works year-round. The intended work commitment or full-time equivalent (FTE) for this position is 1.0 and considered full-time.

  • Assistant Professor – Salary and compensation is commensurate with education, experience, and achievements. The salary is subject to availability of funds.
  • Associate Professor – Salary and compensation is commensurate with education, experience, and achievements. The salary is subject to availability of funds.
  • Professor – Salary and compensation is commensurate with education, experience, and achievements. The salary is subject to availability of funds.
