Position: Open Rank-Academic Faculty in Biological Sciences

Overview

Open Rank-Academic Faculty in Biological Sciences. The College of Science and Mathematics (CSM), Department of Biological Sciences at Augusta University invites applications for a faculty member at the rank of Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Professor. CSM seeks an outstanding individual with innovation and integrative research programs that would extend and complement existing faculty strengths in the Department of Biological Sciences.

CSM is looking for someone who takes a molecular approach to physiology, organismal biology, and/or ecology. The successful candidate is expected to develop a vibrant, independent, and competitive research program to successfully secure external funding. The successful candidate will teach undergraduate and graduate courses in their area of expertise, mentor graduate (MS, PhD) and undergraduate students, and serve on department, program, and campus committees.

This position is considered to be on tenure track.

Responsibilities
  • Research - 45%:
    Research and other scholarly activities in the field to involve undergraduate and graduate science majors.
  • Teaching - 45%:
    Teaching and coordinating biology courses as assigned.
  • Service - 10%:
    Perform service on committees and other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications

Ph.D. in biological sciences or related field. At least 1-year postdoctoral experience. Strong publication record. Commitment to teaching or mentorship.

Rank-specific qualifications:

  • Assistant Professor – Early level career as a faculty member.
  • Associate Professor – Mid level career faculty member with at least five years at rank of Assistant Professor or comparable training, background, and experience.
  • Professor – Senior level career faculty member with at least five years at the rank of Associate Professor or comparable training, background, and experience. Per Board of Regents (BOR) policy, Professors must have a terminal degree.
Required faculty employment qualifications (USG)
  • Consistent with SACSCOC accreditation requirements;
  • Evidence of ability as a teacher;
  • Evidence of activity as a scholar and ability in all other duties assigned;
  • Successful experience (will be waived for those just entering the academic profession who meet all other requirements);
  • Desirable personal qualities judged on the basis of interview, biographical data, and recommendations.
Preferred Qualifications
  • External funding awards.
  • Teaching experience at the undergraduate and graduate levels.
Shift/Salary/Benefits

This position is academic year based and typically works August through May, depending on dates outlined in offer letter and yearly contract. The intended work commitment or full-time equivalent (FTE) is 1.0. Salary and compensation are commensurate with education, experience, and achievements and subject to the availability of funds. Comprehensive benefits include medical, dental, vision, sick leave, retirement plans, tuition waiver, wellness options, and more.

Eligible full-time employees may be considered for the Tuition Assistance Program after six months of employment. Rank and salary are determined at hire based on experience, education, credentials, specialty, training, etc., and internal equity and market data. Advancement through the faculty ranks occurs through the annual Promotion and Tenure process; review the Augusta University Promotion and Tenure website for details.
