The Office of Student Financial Aid (OSFA) at Augusta University is part of Enrollment and Student Affairs. OSFA provides guidance and assistance for students to secure funding for education and counsel them on eligibility for financial aid.
Job SummaryThe Assistant Director of Financial Aid provides leadership, supervision, and oversight for a team of Financial Aid Counselors serving students in the Medical College of Georgia, Dental College of Georgia, College of Nursing, and College of Allied Health Sciences. The role manages two Financial Aid Counselor II staff, ensuring equitable caseload distribution, compliance with federal and accrediting requirements, and delivery of high‑quality financial counseling services.
Responsibilities- SUPERVISION & LEADERSHIP
:
Direct supervision of two Financial Aid Counselor II staff, equitable caseload assignment, performance management, staff development, and representation of the Health Sciences Financial Aid team in campus leadership meetings. - COUNSELING
:
Oversee individualized financial aid counseling for Health Sciences students, entrance/exit counseling for loan borrowers, and staff counseling oversight. Travel to regional campuses as required. - CUSTOMER SERVICE
:
Lead outreach campaigns for FAFSA completion, coordinate with federal, state, and external agencies, and collaborate with admissions, registration, advising, and student accounts offices. - RECORD MAINTENANCE & COMPLIANCE
:
Supervise staff in reconciling FAFSA data, processing special circumstances, and reporting to the Department of Education. Manage documentation for audits and monitor federal and accrediting compliance. - AWARDING AND ADJUSTMENTS
:
Interpret and communicate complex financial aid regulations, oversee award and adjustment processes, and serve as subject matter expert for HRSA loans, scholarships, R2T4, and COA adjustments. - DEPARTMENT REPRESENTATIVE
:
Maintain professional expertise, represent the office at institutional events and accreditation activities, lead special projects, and provide training and cross‑coverage for staff. - Perform all other duties as assigned.
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
- Three (3) years of financial aid or related experience.
- Experience with Department of Education software (e.g., FAA Access, NSLDS, COD, Return to Title IV).
- Experience with Ellucian Banner and Campus Logic.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and other computer software/databases.
- Knowledge of FERPA laws.
- Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
- Strong prioritization, organizational, and problem‑solving skills.
- Ability to counsel students and provide superior customer service.
- Ability to comply with federal and state statutes regarding student financial aid eligibility and distribution.
- Ability to interpret and apply federal/state regulations in awarding financial aid.
- Willingness to travel to other AU medical student sites for training and education.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality.
- Shift: Days, Monday‑Friday; overtime may be required.
- Pay Band: B10.
- Salary: $52,500 – $61,786.03 per year, commensurate with qualifications.
