Nature And ScopeUnder the supervision of the Center Director, the Pre-K Teacher Assistant works cooperatively with the Pre-K Lead Teacher to plan and conduct learning experiences and activities and assists in day-to-day classroom management.
Responsibilities- Organize classroom space into functional areas (interest centers) in collaboration with the teacher.
- Maintain a clean, healthy, safe indoor and outdoor classroom environment.
- Keep classroom organized with materials readily accessible to children.
- Provide constant supervision of children during all activities.
- Observe physical conditions of children and make referrals to the teacher when necessary.
- Observe and assess children in each developmental area using designated screening and ongoing assessment processes.
- Refer children with suspected problems to the teacher.
- Provide input into the evaluation of each child’s progress on an ongoing basis.
- In collaboration with the teacher, prepare in advance lesson plans, materials, and environment that are organized, interactive, appropriate, clean, safe, and hands-on.
- Follow daily schedule and conduct activities appropriate for individual developmental levels.
- In the absence of the teacher, assume primary responsibility for classroom management.
- Provide a variety of art media and opportunities for creative expression.
- Display children’s work at eye level in the classroom and hallways.
- Conduct individual, small, and large group activities; present activities or concepts in sequential order.
- Plan and participate in a balanced program of open learning and structured activities.
- Communicate to the teacher the need for additional supplies.
- Use community resources and field trips for classroom enrichment.
- Make home visits and conduct parent-teacher conferences during the school year.
- Establish classroom rules appropriate for the age level of the children and maintain order using positive behavioral management.
- Provide smooth transitions between activities.
- Attend and participate in required meetings, trainings, professional development, and continuing education.
- Ensure site-appropriate health, safety, classroom organization, aesthetics, and sanitation guidelines are followed.
- Follow mandatory reporting of suspected abuse, unsafe conditions, repair needs, complaints, accidents, and injuries.
- Associate degree in Early Childhood Education
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to perform physical duties including kneeling, bending, squatting, lifting, pushing, pulling, and carrying objects or children up to 50 lbs
- Employment and benefits package is offered through Early Childhood Development Co., LLC, whose sole managing member is the YMCA of Metropolitan Atlanta, Inc.
- Ability to pass a pre-employment background check including Criminal Record check, Drug Screening, and motor vehicle record (MVR) according to company policy.
- Must be legally eligible to work in the US without current or future sponsorship.
