Job Summary: The Department of Medicine at the Medical College of Georgia at Augusta University seeks a tenure track Associate Professor to join the new Transdisciplinary Research Initiative in Inflammaging and Brain Aging (TRIBA). The position requires an innovative, independent research program in aging, with a focus on securing extramural funding, including NIH R01 or equivalent. The successful candidate will also teach and mentor graduate students.
Responsibilities- Develop a research program with a goal of securing one NIH R01 or RF1 grant or other major grant as Principal Investigator, with direct cost revenues of $200,000–$300,000 per year for the first 4–5 years; from Year 4 onward, expected to be PI or MPI on at least one R01 or equivalent and labs grant exceed $400,000 per year in direct costs.
- Take part in teaching at the Medical College or Graduate School.
- Mentor graduate students.
- Board Eligible or Board Certified; MD, PhD, or equivalent appropriate degree.
- Minimum of five years at rank of Assistant Professor or comparable training, background, and experience.
- Eligible for tenure; appointment as associate or full professor with prior tenure and national reputation.
- Demonstrated ability as a teacher, scholar, and in all other duties (successful experience waived for new academics who meet requirements).
- Adherence to Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges accreditation requirements.
- Doctoral degree in biomedical related discipline from an accredited institution.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills and interpersonal skills.
- Human research experience (publications in peer-reviewed journals, extramural funding).
This is a fiscal year-based, full-time position (FTE 1.0). Salary is commensurate with experience and available funding.
