Job Description

Overview

A well-established civil/environmental engineering firm with a 45+ year history specializing in municipal water and wastewater infrastructure across the Southeast. The team blends big‑firm technical expertise with a family‑oriented, faith‑based, relationship‑driven culture. They are known for:

  • Longstanding partnerships with small and mid‑sized cities
  • Exceptional client service and community impact
  • Helping municipalities secure funding (loans, grants, GEFA, USDA, etc.)
  • High employee retention, autonomy, and leadership development
  • A strong backlog of multi‑year work

This is an excellent opportunity for an early‑career engineer in the water/wastewater industry, who wants to gain meaningful project experience, and grow into a Project Manager or future leader.

Role Purpose

The Project Engineer supports senior engineers and project managers in the design and delivery of water and wastewater treatment plants, pump stations, pipelines, and related municipal infrastructure. This is an engineering‑focused role with exposure to field work, permitting, funding processes, customer interaction, and hands‑on project coordination. You will contribute to meaningful public‑works projects while learning how to manage scopes, schedules, and technical deliverables.

Key Responsibilities Project Support & Coordination
  • Assist senior engineers in managing municipal infrastructure projects.
  • Track project tasks, schedules, documentation, and deliverables.
  • Join client calls/meetings and provide follow‑up notes.
  • Coordinate with CAD staff, subconsultants, labs, and surveyors.
  • Support customer service efforts—the firm is deeply committed to serving municipalities well.
Technical Engineering Work
  • Perform engineering calculations and basic hydraulic analysis.
  • Support development of reports, technical memos, funding documents, and permit applications.
  • Assist with plans and specifications using AutoCAD, Civil 3D, and related design tools.
  • Gather and review field data; occasional site visits to treatment plants and pump stations.
  • Contribute to design of water/wastewater systems under supervision of licensed engineers.
Learning & Growth
  • Receive hands‑on mentorship from senior engineers and principals.
  • Gain exposure to the full project lifecycle—planning, design, bidding, construction, and funding.
  • Build toward Engineer II, Project Manager, or future leadership roles.
  • Thrive in an environment that values initiative, humility, professionalism, and always learning.
Qualifications
  • BS in Civil or Environmental Engineering
    , or similar discipline.
  • 1–3 years of experience in water, wastewater or municipal engineering.
  • EIT preferred (or currently pursuing EIT/PE). PE is not required for entry.
  • Experience with AutoCAD, Civil 3D, or similar design software (training provided for the right candidate).
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work directly with municipalities.
  • Organized, reliable, and able to manage multiple tasks with high autonomy.
  • A team player who values a respectful, family‑oriented, client‑focused work culture.
Compensation & Benefits
  • Very competitive base salary based on experience
  • Company vehicle for project‑related travel
  • Strong benefits package:
    • Company‑paid health insurance
      • 401(k) with match
      • Profit sharing
      • Paid vacation + holidays
      • Annual bonus
  • Clear path for advancement into Project Manager roles, high autonomy and long‑term stability
Ideal Candidate Profile
  • Early‑career engineer seeking meaningful infrastructure work that directly impacts small and mid‑sized communities.
  • Enjoys both technical design and light project coordination.
  • Values a family‑oriented, very friendly, traditional and cooperative work environment.
  • Wants mentorship, responsibility, and long‑term career growth—not a corporate “cog‑in‑the‑wheel” experience.
  • Reliable, humble, client‑service oriented, and eager to learn.
